[ad_1]

Summary

  • KTM’s upcoming 1390 Super Duke GT sports an angry fascia and redesigned bodywork for a bold look.
  • The bike features new ergonomics, a TFT instrument cluster, and powerful engine with 187 hp.
  • Changes to the chassis, suspension, brakes, and wheels make the Super Duke GT a force to be reckoned with.

If you’re into powerful sports touring bikes, we have some good news for you all the way from Europe. KTM is readying its new 1390 Super Duke GT, based on the totally bonkers 1390 Super Duke R unveiled last year. It’s been spied testing in a near-production-ready avatar, hinting this might be the next 1,300cc offering from Team Orange. Here’s everything we can see.

An All-New Design With An Angry Fascia

Remember the 1390 Super Duke’s fascia? Yes, the one that left us a little bitter in the mouth. The same one finds its place on the upcoming Super Duke GT. You get the same, angry-looking DRLs with LED headlights slapped between them. What’s new, however, is the bodywork.

Unlike the naked, this one has large, polygon-ish fairings on the side that double up as radiator shrouds. Up top lies a transparent windscreen, visibly larger and wider than the 1290 Super Duke GT. Another noteworthy detail is the new pillion grab rail, which seems much more in line with the design now.

The new design also paves the way for what looks like different ergonomics. Both rider and pillion saddles appear new and more spacious than before, while the riding posture is upright for touring purposes. We can spot a flat tubular handlebar and slightly rear-set footrests, too. As for the cockpit, there’s a TFT instrument cluster. Though unclear, we won’t be surprised if it’s the same unit from the Super Duke R. On the naked, it gives access to:

  • Cornering ABS
  • Quickshifter
  • Traction control
  • Ride modes
  • Cruise control
  • Smartphone connectivity

Mighty 1,349cc V-Twin Engine And New Chassis

The design may or may not rock your boat, but the engine and chassis changes surely will. The test mule of the Super Duke GT has the same 1,350cc V-twin engine seen on the Super Duke R. It’s good for 187 horsepower and 107 pound-feet, all sent to the wheel via a six-speed transmission in a punchy manner thanks to new variable valve timing. If the GT has the same output, this would position it above its rivals like the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT.

Also visible in the spy shots is the chassis overhaul. Yes, it’s identical to the Super Duke’s trellis frame and cast subframe, but it’s a big change for the GT. That’s because the current model still uses the fully tubular chassis from the pre-2020 1290 Super Duke. Another welcome change is the new-gen WP Apex suspension sourced from you know who. Same goes for the Brembo brakes, single-sided swingarm, and alloy wheels.

The company also has a 1390 adventure tourer in the works, by the way, with a similar set of upgrades. What are you more excited about?
