Summary

  • Benda has type-approved the BD250, a stunning 250cc bobber cruiser with graceful design elements and likable features for its class.
  • The BD250 boasts a V-twin engine, round TFT instrument cluster, anti-lock brakes, and all-LED lights, making it a standout in its segment.
  • While the BD250 may not offer high performance due to its 401-pound curb weight, its unique design and promising features make it worth a second look.

If you’re into cruisers and follow global trends, you must’ve heard about Chinese bikemaker Benda. It’s a company that’s made all the right kind of headlines in the last couple of years, specializing in the segment we all adore: cruisers. Going full gas the same way, it’s now ready to birth another staggering bobber, the BD250. Yes, it’s a 250cc entry-level offering, but believe us, this is easily the most graceful cruiser you’ll see in a long time. The news comes via type-approval documents published by the Chinese company.

The Benda BD250 Bobber Has Loads Of Stunning Design Elements

One look at the BD250, and you’ll be flabbergasted. It’s an aesthetic you would never expect from a 250cc offering, let alone a Chinese cruiser. You get a round headlight up top, housed between a set of old-school girder-type forks. But it’s not a single-shock setup as seen on actual girder forks. Instead, Benda has plonked two springs on each side, linked to the telescopic tubes visible behind. Why it’s been done remains unclear, and same goes for the advantage. It surely looks the part, though.

Moving backward, the BD250 flexes a curvy tank that flows seamlessly into the bobber-like single-piece saddle. This is topped by a chunky tail fender and a swingarm-mounted plate holder. There’s no shortage of attention to detail either. Some notable elements include:

Benda BD250 Design Elements

  • Bar-end mirrors
  • Old-school multi-spoke wheels
  • Blacked-out twin exhausts
  • Copper engine casing
  • Dangling bobber-style seat

Meanwhile, you get a likable set of features (for a 250cc bike). A round TFT instrument cluster is clearly visible, alongside anti-lock brakes and all-LED lights. Smartphone connectivity also looks to be on offer. We wouldn’t expect too much more from a 250cc offering anyway.

A 249cc, V-twin Engine Powers The Benda BD250

Under all that swagger lies a 249cc, V-twin engine. Yes, a V-twin! It breathes via two-into-two exhausts to churn out 25.5 horsepower–not too shy of the 28-HP, 286cc Honda Rebel 300. But the mill has to lug around 401 pounds of curb weight–a sizable 37 more than the Honda. So you shouldn’t expect a whole lot of performance from the BD.

Moving on, the engine sits inside what looks like a double-cradle chassis. It suspends on the girder-type fork mentioned above, along with diagonally mounted dual shock absorbers. Each end comprises an 18-inch alloy wheel that wears a single disc and fat tires (130-section front/160-section rear).

All in all, the BD250 looks ready for production and an official announcement is around the corner. Its American future is still unclear, though, as the cruiser will first debut in its local market. That said, Benda is trying to establish itself in America, evident from its latest VIN decoder filing in America.
