Meet The LiveWire S2 Mulholland: The New Age Electric Cruiser From Harley-Davidson

Summary

  • S2 Mulholland offers surging performance with a 0-60 MPH time of 3.3 seconds, flaunting an electric motor that delivers substantial torque.
  • The bike provides a refreshed, eco-friendly design with a focus on brake lines and wiring harness, using sustainable materials for various components.
  • S2 Mulholland boasts advanced technology with cornering ABS, traction control, four riding modes, OTA updates, and a TFT display with smartphone connectivity.

We knew it was bound to happen at some point, yet it feels surreal as ever! Harley-Davidson’s EV initiative LiveWire has announced its first-ever electric cruiser, the S2 Mulholland. It’s the second electric motorcycle based on the S2 platform and goes the performance cruiser way unlike the flat-tracker-inspired Del Mar. But be warned, this isn’t your usual H-D cruiser that’s hefty, massive, or hard to maneuver in tight spots. This is for those who prioritize power delivery and functionality over design in their cruisers. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Surging Performance Of A Power Cruiser

0 To 60 MPH: 3.3 Seconds

The S2 Mulholland is equipped with a juicy electric motor that delivers a whopping 194 pound-feet of torque — that’s even more than the new H-D CVO Road Glide ST! However, it is still 0.3 seconds slower (in a 0 to 60 MPH sprint) compared to the S2 Del Mar and just falls short of the 100 MPH top speed. LiveWire claims the S2 Mulholland is capable of a city range of 121 miles and a highway range of 73 miles at 55 MPH. The real-world range should be slightly lower, though. Unfortunately, it carries the long charge times of the S2 Del Mar; Level 1 charging takes the battery from 0 to 100% in 9.1 hours, and Level 2 charging brings the same down to 142 minutes.

Moving on, as we suspected, the riding triangle is updated over the Del Mar. It’s more upright, thanks to six-inch bar risers, which bring the handlebars closer to the rider. Plus, it’s decked with premium underpinnings, including Dunlop Sportmax Roadsmart IV tires, Hitachi fully adjustable USD and monoshock, and a Brembo monobloc caliper.

Refreshed, Eco-Friendly, And Futuristic Design Language

The S2 Mulholland brings a fresh design to the performance cruiser segment. This cruiser departs from the traditional silhouette that places the fuel tank as the centerpiece. Instead, the focus this time is on a stripped-back, business-only appearance. It’s meant to produce a strong human-machine connection.

This bike is also pretty eco-friendly, using sustainable materials for the first time at various touch-points. For example, the fenders are made from CAP Hemp bio-composite, the radiator shrouds and wiring caddies are made from Hylon Ocrean PCR Nylon 6, and the seat is made of petroleum-free silicone, not leather or vinyl. This is about as vegan as a bike can get.

Electronics That Get Better With Time

The LiveWire S2 Mulholland does not miss out on tech, either. It has cornering ABS, Drag-Torque Slip Control System (DSCS), and cornering traction control. The power delivery is managed by four riding modes — Sport, Road, Range, and Rain — along with a user mode. The package is topped off with a TFT display with LiveWire Connect, USB-C port, and smartphone connectivity.

Finally, the bike is equipped with Over the Air (OTA) updates, so it can get updates as the company develops them. This OTA includes software updates, event detection, horn and light control via app, TPMS, and mobile pairing. Over time, LiveWire claims, the bike’s tech will get better, like in a Tesla.
