In recent years, the Consumer Electric Show (CES) has become the holy grail for automakers to present their game-changing electric vehicles. Chinese bikemakers, in particular, use it as a means to make headlines in the American market, and we already have one such announcement from CES 2024. Case in context is the Horwin Senmenti 0 electric scooter. It’s just been launched in the United States of America to serve as one of the most advanced scooters on sale here–whether in terms of performance or technology. In fact, the EV has more power than the Harley-Davidson Street Bob!

The Horwin Senmenti 0 Boasts 97 Horsepower And Over 650 Pound-Feet

No, that’s not a typo. Horwin has equipped the Senmenti scooter with a Permanent Magnet Synchronous electric motor (PMSM). It’s good for 97 horsepower and 659 pound-feet, all sent to the wheel via a Gates carbon belt drive setup. These figures help the two-wheeler sprint from zero to 62mph in just 2.8 seconds, while the top speed has been restricted to 124mph. More importantly, the output is well clear of popular scooters like the 42-HP BMW CE 04 (electric), Yamaha X-Max (ICE), or the Suzuki Burgman 400 (ICE).

The motor joins hands with a big 16.9kWh lithium battery pack, which can offer a maximum range of 186 miles. This is in ideal conditions, so the real-world figure can be 150 miles (still impressive in our opinion). Once out of charge, you can charge it back to 80 percent in just 30 minutes with a DC fast charger. Interestingly, the battery also allows you to power your external electric devices (peak output limited to 2.2kWh). All these are claimed numbers, though.

The battery and motor sit inside a bespoke steel chassis, suspended on 41 mm KYB forks and a monoshock. This is topped by a 16-inch front and 14-inch rear wheel, where the front houses dual discs and the rear has a single disc. Dual discs are a rarity on scooters, but you’d need all the braking prowess here, given the scooter’s 507-pound heft.

Like the performance figures, the scooter’s feature list is also quite impressive. The party trick is the set of front and rear radars. These, along with 360-degree cameras, help with collision warning. The cameras can also act as dashcams/action cameras for video recording.

Other than this, you get a seven-inch TFT instrument cluster that gives you access to:

  • Four riding modes (Standard, Road, Sport, Custom)
  • TPMS
  • Smartphone connectivity (with Apple CarPlay)
  • Traction control
  • Heating modes (seat and handlebar)
  • Keyless ignition

An adjustable backrest, USB ports, 10W wireless charger, NFC, and electric handle lock are also part of the package. Phew!

As for design, the Senmenti looks super-futuristic. There’s a vertical LED headlight up top, bejeweled into muscular plastic fairings for a maxi-scooter aesthetic. On the flipside, the tail end is rather sleek and minimalistic, courtesy of the swingarm-mounted number plate holder. All this is topped by a unique saddle, large floorboards, a tall windscreen, and a wide handlebar. We also dig the punchy white-orange colorway, and Horwin states there will be more liveries on offer closer to the delivery date.

Given what’s on offer, there’s no denying the Chinese scooter is a premium offering. And the pricing tells the same tale. Horwin has priced the Senmenti 0 at $16,800–about $4,500 more than the BMW CE 04. On paper, that seems like a well-justified amount, as you’re getting a more powerful EV with a lot more range and features. But the question, as always, is whether the Chinese company can live upto these claims. Another concern is the tentative delivery date (destined for the end of 2024) and the brand’s dealership network.

Nevertheless, if you’re confident, you can head to Horwin’s site and pre-book the scooter for just $100. The pre-booking also gets you free charging for three years, lifetime free over-the-air-updates, and an extra $800 discount. We would suggest you wait for the first pieces to arrive here, check them out in person, take a test ride, and then decide whether it’s worth the moolah.

A scale of 1 to 10, how much would you rate this electric scooter? We’d give it a solid 9 (based on the specifications).
