Electric Isuzu D-Max ute confirmed for Australia

One of Australia’s most popular utes will soon be offered as an electric model, but a local launch date remains unknown.

The electric 2025 Isuzu D-Max ute has been locked in for an Australian launch – though exact timing for the battery-powered dual-cab has yet to be announced.

Isuzu revealed the D-Max EV Concept ahead of its public debut at the Bangkok motor show in Thailand later this month, confirming Australia will be one of the first countries to receive the electric ute.

The Isuzu D-Max EV will be fitted dual electric motors – 40kW front and 90kW rear for a combined output of 130kW and 325Nm – powered by a 66.9kWh lithium-ion battery.

The electric D-Max is expected to offer approximately 300 kilometres of claimed driving range unladen.

Isuzu says the ute will still offer a payload capacity of up to 1000kg, and will be able to tow up to 3500kg (braked).

Thanks to the dual electric motors, the D-Max EV will be all-wheel drive, with a top speed of 130km/h.

While the electric D-Max shares its platform with its diesel counterparts – reducing development costs – it will use a de Dion rear axle to improve off-road durability, with between 60 and 70 per cent of the vehicle’s power coming from the rear wheels.

Production of the electric Isuzu D-Max will begin in 2025, with the model to go on sale in Norway first, as previously reported.

Australia, the UK, and Thailand will follow, with further details expected to be announced closer to the D-Max EV’s launch.
