Henry Ford literally invented the pickup truck and, more than 100 years later, his company is still the leader. The Ford F-150 was not only the best-selling truck in 2023, it was the overall top-selling vehicle of any kind. The Iconic F-series trucks are so dominant that they have been the most popular full-size pickups for 47 straight years. There is absolutely no reason to think that 2024 will be any different for the segment-leading Ford truck.
The F-150 isn’t quite ready for a full refresh just yet, but for 2024 it did get a slightly updated exterior, and there’s plenty of new tech for the interior. There is an engine option for every application, as well as more trims and configurations than can humanly be calculated. Still the rugged workhorse it has always been, the 2024 model is a little more refined as a modern pickup that does work truck, off-road toy, and luxury vehicle equally as well.
2024 Ford F-150
The Ford F-150 has long been the best-selling pickup truck in America due to is capability, reliability, and general performance. Today, the F-150 serves duty as a work truck, a family vehicle, and even a daily driver. Its cabin borders on luxury in upper trim levels, and it’s spacious enough to accomodate the whole family even on longer road trips. The Ford F-150 is a true jack of all trades.Â

Ford brings back its performance off-road monster with a refreshed appearance, re-designed interior cues, and a mighty supercharged V-8.
What’s New For 2024?
The F-150 is only three years into its latest generation so the 2024 model is not radically different, but there are some cool changes. The front grill got an upgrade and there are some subtle enhancements to the body that make it a little more aerodynamic. There are also some exterior lighting elements and new wheel designs. The truck also gets a multi-fuctional tail gate that can be partially opened, even when a trailer is attached. The only downside is that there is no longer a diesel engine option.
2024 Highlights

Engine Specifications And Performance
The 2024 Ford F-150 has several engine options and they are all great. Things start out with a 325-horsepower 2.7-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6, which is upgradable to a 400-horsepower twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6. There is also the hybrid PowerBoost, which combines the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 with an electric motor to generate 430 horsepower. The ultra-reliable 400-horsepower 5.0-liter V-8 is thankfully still available. For the F-150 Raptor trim, there is a 450-horsepower V-6 and, for those who want to go crazy, a 700-horsepower 5.2-liter supercharged V-8.

Towing Capabilities And Payload Capacity
The F-150s equipped with the optional 400-horsepower 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine can tow an astounding 13,500 pounds. The V-8, which has the same horsepower but 90 less pound-feet of torque, tows 500 fewer pounds. The least powerful engine, the 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6, tows a respectable 12,700-pound capacity, which is better than most other trucks’ top capability. As is usually the case with performance trucks, the Raptor models have less towing capacity, coming in between 8,200 and 8,700 pounds.

Off-Road Capability
Any F-150 equipped with four-wheel drive is going to be a competent off-roader, because even at the base-level, there’s decent ground clearance and plenty of power. The top trims come standard with a variable-assist steering system that gives more agility at low speeds. The Raptor and Raptor R, were made for the off-road, coming standard with 35-inch tires, and an option of 37-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A K02 all-terrain tires, that add 1.1 inches of ground clearance.
At a more affordable level, the Tremor trim is also specifically configured for off-road dominance. Coming standard with a locking rear differential and a $500 optional front-axle Torsen limited-slip differential, all Tremors are equipped with 33-inch General Grabber A/TX off-road tires on 18-inch aluminum wheels. While it doesn’t quite have the capabilities of the Raptor models, the Tremor is almost half the price and offers more than enough off-road clout.

TopSpeed’s Best Pickup Truck Of 2024: Ford F-150
The iconic Ford F-150 soldiers on as the best of the best for 2024. The full size pickup remains king.
Interior Technology And Comfort
Best Interior Features Of The 2024 Ford F-150
- Standard fold-flat rear seats
- Available fold-flat front seats
- Standard leather-wrapped steering wheel
- Available leather-trim seats
- Available fully flat load floor
The 2024 F-150 has a roomy interior, especially in the four-door SuperCrew configuration. At the higher trim levels, they rival high-end luxury sedans, but even at the base-model level, that cheap plastic feel Ford’s were known for is gone. The shifter folds down, so the center console can become a flat work space and, with the optional fold-flat front seats, the entire cabin transforms into a camper-style sleeping area. There are also many convenient storage cubbies, including ample space under the rear seats.
Technology
The biggest news for the 2024 F-150 is that the once optional 12-inch touchscreen is now standard on all models. The infotainment system runs an updated version of Ford’s Sync 4 software and comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android auto, as well as being a Wi-Fi hotspot. SiriusXM radio and navigation are available with a subscription, but many trims come with a limited free trial for both apps. There is a standard AM/FM radio and an optional soul-thumping Bang and Olufson sound sytem. There’s plenty of power outlets and ports, but it doesn’t look like wireless phone charging is coming to the F-150 just yet.

Safety And Reliability
Ford trucks are famous for being rock sold mechanically, so there’s no need to worry about the powertrain long after the warranty expires. The current generation of F-150 is three years into its cycle and there have been no issues. As for safety, being inside a 4,000-pound truck is always going to be safer than driving a sub-compact. The F-150 meets or exceeds all collision standards and comes with a variety of collision avoidance features.
Driver Assistance Features
The 2024 F-150 comes standard with features like front collision warning and pedestrian detection, along with emergency breaking. A lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist is optional. Also, available is an adaptive cruise control system with the Blue Cruise hands-free driving mode. Additionally, all models come standard with a backup camera to assist in parking and trailer hitching.

2024 Ford F-150 : 10 Things You Need To Know
Though not a new-generation vehicle, the 2024 F-150 has undergone extensive revisions and received a few key updates as part of this mid-cycle refresh
Warranties
The 2024 F-150 warranty is fairly standard with three years and 36,000 miles full coverage, and five years/60,000 miles for the powertrain. It’s nice that the corrosion warranty is unlimited miles, because some manufacturers have started capping that at 50,000 or 60,000 miles. The one thing Ford doesn’t offer is any complimentary maintenance visits, which GM, Chevy, and Toyota all extend to their customers.

2024 Ford F-150 Versus Its Competitors
The Toyota Tundra and the Nissan Titan would very much like to be a part of this conversation, but when it comes to full-size trucks, the American Big Three, Ford, Chevy, and Ram, reign supreme. The Ford F-150, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and the Ram 1500 went one, two, three in top-selling vehicles for 2023 because they are the best. The F-150s biggest competitors are the Silverado 1500 and the Ram 1500.
How The Ford F-150 Compares To The Chevrolet Silverado 1500

2024 Ford F-150 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Model Ford F-150 Chevrolet Silverado Engine V-6 | V-8 | Hybrid 2.7-liter turbocharged I-4 Transmission 10-Speed Automatic Eight-speed automatic Horsepower 325 – 700 HP 310 Horsepower Torque 400-640 LB-FT 430 pound-feet Driveline RWD or 4WD Rear/four-wheel drive MSRP $33,835 – $83,010 $38,795 Towing Capacity Up To 14,000 Pounds 9,500 pounds Payload Capacity Up To 2,335 Pounds 2,260 pounds
Picking between a 2024 Ford F-150 and a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a virtual coin-flip. Both are solid trucks with great entry-level pricing as well as power. They each have a ecclectic variety of trim levels and configurations, meaning there is a truck from each brand to suite every consumer. At the upper trim levels, there are luxurious and performance-oriented trucks from both brands, but the Chevy doesn’t quite have something as insane as the Ford Raptor R.
In the practical levels, the Silverado has a bit more tech and features as the F-150. The Ford, however, pulls a little more weight than the Chevy. In terms of off-road adventure, both brands offer fun and capable 4×4 adult toys, though again, Chevy has nothing like the Raptor. If towing and hauling is a priority, then the F-150 is the choice, but if next-gen creature comforts are high on the list, it’s the Silverado 1500. In reality, both trucks are almost equally capable of handling any duty, so the choice comes down to personal preference.

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a solid truck for work or play, but it also makes a great daily driver and family vehicle.
How The Ford F-150 Compares To The Ram 1500
-
2024 Ford F-150 2024 Ram 1500 Model Ford F-150 2024 Ram 1500 Engine V-6 | V-8 | Hybrid 3.6-liter gas/electric V-6 Transmission 10-Speed Automatic Eight-speed automatic Horsepower 325 – 700 HP 305 horsepower Torque 400-640 LB-FT 269 pound-feet Driveline RWD or 4WD Rear-wheel drive MSRP $33,835 – $83,010 $41,415 Towing Capacity Up To 14,000 Pounds 7,760 pounds Payload Capacity Up To 2,335 Pounds 2,321 pounds
The 2024 F-150 tows and hauls more than the Ram 1500. It also comes in cheaper at the base-model and offers a more powerful engine at the starter class. The Ram 1500, however, ranks consistently as the top full-size pickup because it has unprecedented luxury and offers the smoothest ride of all the big trucks. While style is certainly a subjective category, the Ram has always been the sharpest-looking truck on the market, and the 2024 model wins the beauty contest once again.
When it comes to the top-trim performance trucks, the Ram 1500 TRX is a much more fearsome predator than the Raptor or Raptor R. Where the F-150 wins is in the entry-level area, which is the best value for a solid work, with great power at an affordable price. Once again, the decision comes down to a matter of preference as well as fitting a specific need. Working hard is definitely F-150 territory, while a high-performance style belongs to the Ram 1500.
2025 Ram 1500: So Much More Than A Mid-Cycle Refresh
Beyond ditching the V-8 and refreshed exterior styling, the changes made to Ram’s 1500 full-size half-ton pickup truck lineup are quite extensive
How Much Does A 2024 Ford F-150 Cost?
The base-model F-150 XL is a solid bargain, coming standard with the 5.0-liter V-8. Even upgrading to 4×4 won’t break the bank, and nets a similar truck to the higher trim levels. The trim levels do escalate sharply in price and mostly add luxury and features, as opposed to performance. The Tremor off-road specialty trim comes with enough extra capabilities to justify the price.

2024 Ford F-150 Debuts With Refreshed Styling, More Standard Equipment, And A Smart New Tailgate
Ford continues to refine its best-selling full-size half-ton pickup truck with key features including Pro Power, Blue Cruise, and best-in-class towing
Fuel Economy
Nobody buys a full-size truck to maximize their MPGs on a morning commute, but the 2024 F-150 is particularly unfriendly at the pump. Of course, these Ford pickups come with some serious power, even at the base-level, and poor gas mileage is the price paid for that. If there was any drawback to the otherwise awesome F-150, it would be that they guzzle gas a bit more than their competitors.

Is It Worth Buying A Ford F-150?
The 2024 F-150 is another in a long line of great Ford trucks. There can be no regrets in purchasing one, because it is going to deliver on everything from work to play. Especially at the entry-level, the F-150 is practically a steal with the performance and capabilities it comes with. As is the case with most full-size truck lines, the Ford can get expensive climbing up the trim later, and the pricier models don’t necessarily offer enough to justify the cost.
While the top-dog Raptor R is impressive, it’s massive price tag leaves much to be desired. Especially since a higher-performance Ram 1500 TRX can be had for around $13,000 less. In terms of a work truck, daily driver, and great off-road toy, the F-150 is the choice if budget is a concern. The solid, utilitarian pickup has always been the signature of the F-150, and the 2024 model delivers that with some modern tools that make it a quality buy for almost every application.
