Porsche Just Created A Whirlwind With Its Flagship EV
The car in question is a Sky Purple Metallic-colored Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package. Porsche took it to the Laguna Seca and sent it for a lap run with its experienced driver, Lars Kern, behind the wheel.
Kern set the lap on fire and recorded a time of 1:27.87 minutes, beating his own record by 26 seconds he set in a Taycan Turbo S Sport around 18 months back, to make the Taycan Turbo GT the fastest electric series-production car at the Laguna Seca.
The record should come as no surprise considering the performance this EV boasts. Porsche launched the Turbo GT Taycan with and without the Weissach Package. They make 778 horsepower as standard, but that’s not all. Use the Launch Control and the Taycan Turbo GT now generates 1,019 horses of overboost power for 10 seconds, or a whopping 1,093 ponies for two seconds. Porsche also mentioned that the Taycan Turbo GT can generate up to 988 pound-feet of torque.
The Taycan Turbo GT can sprint to 62 mph from a standstill in 2.3 seconds in the standard form, and 2.2 seconds with the Weissach Package. 0-124 mph sprint can be completed in just 6.6 seconds (6.4 seconds with the Weissach Package), making it 1.3 seconds quicker than the already powerful and fast Taycan Turbo S. Courtesy of these mind-boggling numbers, the Taycan Turbo GT is the most powerful and the quickest Porsche to date.

What Makes The Taycan Turbo GT So Fast
Porsche mentioned that the secret behind the Taycan Turbo GT’s exhilarating numbers is a pulse inverter that routes 900 amperes to the rear wheels; 300 amperes more than the Taycan Turbo S. With silicon carbide used in the construction and the various chop-chops the Weissach package brings to the table, the Taycan Turbo GT is 165 pounds (75 kilos) lighter than the Taycan Turbo S.
To elaborate on the weight-shaving measures, Porsche has ditched the rear seats in favor of a carbon fiber shelf that offers extra storage, and also equipped lighter carbon-ceramic brakes and 21-inch forged wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires. The Taycan Turbo GT is also equipped with the dynamics package as standard, which includes the Porsche Active Ride suspension with GT-specific tuning.
The aero enhancements include:
- A new front spoiler with aeroblades
- Adaptive rear spoiler with a gurney flap
- Fixed rear wing with carbon fiber weave
- Underbody air deflector and a new front diffuser (Weissach Package)
These enhancements allow the Turbo GT with the Weissach Package to create up to 485 pounds of downforce.
