Chevrolet’s upcoming Corvette ZR1 supercar will reportedly make use of a twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 and feature significant aerodynamic upgrades.

The upcoming Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 twin-turbo V8 supercar has reportedly been previewed to dealers in the US ahead of its launch due next year.

Seen testing in the US and Germany, the next high-performance Corvette will feature more extreme aerodynamic components, and is set to sit atop the Stingray, Z06 and hybrid E-Ray variants when it launches in 2025.

As reported by GM Authority, dealers at a “secret meeting” were shown images of a prototype Corvette ZR1 – which is set to be powered by a twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 engine.

Sources have told the US outlet this engine will be named the ‘LT7’, as a turbocharged version of the ‘LT6’ which currently powers the Corvette Z06.

Reports suggest the ‘C8’ ZR1 will become the most powerful Corvette ever produced, with more than 630kW available – compared to 500kW from the Z06 in the US.

Aside from the engine, the 2025 Corvette ZR1 is also due to gain a larger rear wing, a new air intake on the front ‘bonnet’ for routing airflow through the front bumper, extra side air scoops, and new multi-spoke wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tyres.

The ZR1 has historically been the fastest and most powerful model in the Chevrolet Corvette range, but reports indicate it will be overshadowed by an upcoming hybrid-powered ‘Zora’ variant.

Named after Zora Arkus-Duntov, an early Corvette chief engineer referred to as the “Father of the Corvette”, this variant is reportedly due to combine the ZR1’s twin-turbo V8 engine with the E-Ray’s electrified all-wheel drive system to produce more than 745kW (1000 horsepower).
