2024 Ford Maverick: A Comprehensive Guide On Features, Specs, And Pricing

The compact pickup segments may be currently small, but the Ford Maverick dominates as the most truck for the buck with unrivaled performance.

The Ford Maverick Is The Cheapest Truck You Can Buy In America Today

With the Maverick compact truck, Ford set out to offer those looking for a practical truck an affordable option. To do this, they’ve cut costs wherever they can. This means that your stock XL trim is pretty bare-bones and only comes with the most basic features. This isn’t a bad thing, though, as a functional truck for $23,815 is still a bargain.

Despite having things like steel wheels and cheaper build materials, the Maverick still has a decent number of standard features. All Mavericks are crew cabs, meaning you get rear seats regardless. Niceties like remote keyless entry and adjustable lumbar support are also standard.

The XLT Is The Best Value Trim

The XL is a fairly simple trim that will appeal to people who don’t care for luxury features and the Lariat is much more expensive but offers a ton of Ford’s best equipment. In our opinion, the XLT is the perfect balance between the two and offers amenities missed on the XL without costing you the much larger price tag of the Lariat.

Instead of the steel wheels, the XLT adds 17-inch aluminum wheels, which just look a lot nicer. Cruise control, an electronic lock for your tailgate, and power exterior mirrors are some of the other features it adds. The XLT also features more tie-down points in the truck bed as well as nicer interior materials.

Your Choice Of Either A Hybrid Or Non-Hybrid Inline-Four

One thing you don’t want a manufacturer to skimp on in any truck is the powertrain. While Ford has kept things simple, the Maverick has a pretty capable four-cylinder which can be had in either a hybrid or non-hybrid setup.

A big change made to the Ford Maverick for the 2024 model year is that the hybrid powertrain is no longer the standard offering. Instead, you get the 2.0-liter inline-four. While those who want better fuel economy may feel slighted at having to pay more for the hybrid version, those who value reliability in their work truck will be thrilled.

The gas-powered powertrain is definitely the way to go. Not only is it more powerful, but it is also more functional, being able to tow more than the hybrid. You can also only get the all-wheel drive system on the gas-powered Maverick. Being able to tow 4,000 pounds in a truck that costs less than $25,000 is mighty impressive though.

The gas-powered Maverick is not the most fuel-efficient car on the market. However, it’s much lighter on gas than most other trucks that you can buy. Its capabilities and fuel costs balance out pretty nicely in our opinion.

If you’re happy to drop some towing capacity and power in favor of fuel economy, the hybrid variant is going to make you particularly happy. It’s the most efficient system in the city and if you regularly make short trips you’re going to be paying much less when you go to fill up.

Ford’s 2024 Maverick Has A Better Interior Than Its Price Suggests

While we’ve stated that the XL is pretty bare-bones, the Ford Maverick isn’t nearly as cut-throat on its interior quality as we would expect. If you buy this 2024 compact truck, then you still get access to all the modern tech you would expect in a new truck, as well as some innovative ideas when it comes to storage.

Key Features

  • Ford Co-Pilot 360
  • 400W Inverter
  • Remote Start
  • Keyless Entry Keypad
  • Bang & Olufsen Sound System

A lot of these features aren’t standard on the Ford Maverick but for a vehicle at this price point, we’re surprised that they’re offered at all. Ford offers a good level of customization on its build page, allowing you to add and exclude any features that you may like or dislike, meaning you can build your Maverick to your tastes.

Even the base model has a pretty functional infotainment system and regular features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. On-board Wi-Fi is also a standard feature, which is quite surprising. You can also fit your Maverick with a wireless smartphone charging pad if you’d like.

The FITS System

There are a ton of storage cubbies on the Ford Maverick, something that anybody using the compact truck as a workhorse will appreciate. As well as a center console cubby and a passenger side cubby, your rear seats fold up to reveal a pretty large storage space as well. There is also a storage box in the truck bed.

The FITS system takes this to the next level. Around your cabin and inside some of these cubbies you will notice some receiver slots. Ford has put geometry data out there for Maverick owners to 3D print their own custom accessories for these slots. This means yet another way that you can make the Maverick work for your specific needs.

The Maverick’s FLEXBED Is One Of The Most Innovative Truck Beds On The Market

Ford uses the Maverick as the perfect example of why size doesn’t matter. The Maverick has a pretty small truck bed but through clever tricks and design ideas, Ford has made the Maverick one of the most adaptable trucks on the market despite its short truck bed.

The FLEXBED

The FLEXBED is Ford’s trademark name for the design on the bed of the Maverick. It proves that Ford is a brand of the people and listens to the needs of the ordinary man, including features that will make towing and hauling easier as well as things that will make the compact pickup the star of any tailgate party.

The Maverick comes preinstalled with a ton of different tie-down points as well as some pre-threaded holes for you to install your own. The tailgate also features two cleat tie-down points that double as bottle openers.

Ford’s 2024 Maverick also features a ton of pockets dug out into the truck bed that can fit either 2x4s or 2x6s. These pockets allow you to hail lumber but also allow you to segment your truck bed how you see fit. The tailgate is also adjustable and can be set at an angle, so you can carry things longer than the truck’s 4.5-foot truck bed.
