2024 Genesis Electrified G80: A Comprehensive Guide On Features, Specs, And Pricing

After splitting from Hyundai back in 2015 to become its own luxury car brand, Genesis has made a name for itself as one of the top manufacturers in the luxury vehicle space. To keep up with the times and Hyundai’s path to electrification, Genesis joined the fray and produced its first all-electric vehicle, the Genesis GV60, a few years ago, and the trend of entering the EV space at lightning speed has continued ever since.

Rather than creating a new line of EVs, Genesis seems content with electrifying its existing lineup of gas-powered cars, thus the Electrified G80 was born. Looking identical to the internal combustion engine (ICE) Genesis G80, the Electrified G80 offers even better performance thanks to the instant acceleration of its all-electric powerplant. That said, there are some heavy-hitters in the luxury EV space, and this guide will dive deep into the Electrified G80 to help you decide if it’s the right luxury option for you.

Specifications And Performance

2023 Genesis Electrified G80
Genesis

The 2024 Genesis Electrified G80 is only available with an all-wheel drivetrain and it’s powered by two 136 kilowatt (kW) permanent-magnet motors, with one mounted on each axle. These dual electric motors combine to produce 365 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, which is enough to propel the Electrified G80 from 0 to 60 miles per hour (MPH) in 4.1 seconds; this is faster than any gas-powered Genesis on the road today.

The powerhouse of the electric version of the G80 is an 87.2 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery that’s mounted underneath the center of the car. This battery is comparable in size to other units used by various EV manufacturers, and it’s the biggest one used in any of Genesis or Hyundai’s new line of EVs. If the company decides to electrify the G90 next, it wouldn’t be surprising if this same battery was used again, especially since the smaller 77.4 kWh battery from the GV60 and GV70 is the same one used in the Hyundai Ioniq 6.

Unlike most other EVs on the market, stepping up from the base model to the higher-level trim does not add any performance capability to the Genesis Electrified G80. The Advance and Prestige trims are identical in terms of performance, so if that’s your main reason for buying an EV, you can pick up the Advance trim and save a few bucks.

Genesis Electrified G80 Charging Time And Range

Genesis Electrified G80
Genesis

The 87.2 kWh battery in the Electrified G80 provides a maximum of 282 miles on a single charge. While this might be enough to get around town and even take a well-planned road trip, its range falls short of most luxury EVs in the segment. That said, it offers a couple of different charging methods to get you back on the road. Capable of handling 350kW charging, you can go from 10% to 80% battery capacity in just 22 minutes, perfect for plugging in while you run into the grocery store on the weekends.

To make charging even easier, Genesis has partnered with Electrify America to offer three years of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions at any of its 3,500+ chargers nationwide. As the largest public charging network in the US, Electrify America makes it simpler to plan a road trip without worrying about range anxiety or running out of juice while you’re on the go.

Interior Technology, Luxury, And Comfort

Best Interior Features Of The 2024 Genesis Electrified G80

  • Nappa leather upholstery
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Sustainable materials
  • Wireless charging
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

The cabin of the electrified version of the G80 is nearly identical to that of the gas-powered G80, except that it’s a bit smaller since space under the floor was needed for the battery pack. Other than that, the Electrified G80 has all the amenities and creature comforts that Genesis drivers have come to expect. Optional Nappa leather upholstery is comfortable and beautiful, and the heated and ventilated front seats make for added luxury on long drives.

Wood trim accents the leather nicely, and the ambient lighting helps to set the mood for however you feel. With the 21-speaker Lexicon Premium Audio sound system, you can be immersed in whatever you’re listening to, and you won’t have to worry about your phone dying on longer trips thanks to standard wireless charging.

Technology

The focal point of the Electrified G80’s tech is the 14.5-inch infotainment system touchscreen mounted to the top of the dashboard. This screen not only seamlessly connects to your smartphone with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but it also tells you how much range you have left, visually displays the current climate within the cabin, handles all navigation, and even shows you what the weather is outside.

Combined with the standard 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster to its left, you’ll feel like you’re engulfed in luxury as soon as you take a seat. The G80 also includes Bluetooth connectivity, a Wi-Fi hotspot, active noise control, and the Genesis digital key so you can use your smartphone to lock, unlock, and start the car.

Safety And Reliability

Genesis Electrified G80
Genesis

As a subsidiary of Hyundai, all Genesis vehicles are backed with the history and reliability of Hyundais, which have long been among the safest and most reliable cars on the road. Showcasing this, the Genesis Electrified G80 has been crash-tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and it received the 2024 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award, which is the highest level award offered by the agency.

Unfortunately, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not rated the 2023 or 2024 Genesis Electrified G80, so its safety rating is still undetermined. That said, NHTSA has zero recalls, investigations, or complaints listed for the 2024 model, which speaks to its safety and reliability. Note that there was a recall back in 2023 for exploding seat belt pretensioners, but this issue seems to have been addressed with the new model year.

Driver Assistance Features

As the luxury brand of Hyundai, Genesis models come loaded with all sorts of safety enhancements and driver-assistance features that make your daily commute a breeze, and the Electrified G80 is no exception. The luxury EV comes standard with features like blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, remote parking assist, and more.

  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Forward collision-avoidance assist
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Lane-following assist
  • Driver attention warning

Warranties

With Hyundai as its parent company, you can expect the Genesis warranty to be up there with the best, and it does not disappoint on the Electrified G80. All new owners can sleep easy at night with bumper-to-bumper coverage for 5 years/60,000 miles, complimentary maintenance for 3 years/36,000 miles, and roadside assistance throughout the life of the full warranty. Additionally, corrosion perforation is covered for seven years no matter how many miles you drive.

The best part of the Genesis EV warranty is the 10-year/100,000-mile warranty on the battery and related electrical components. Most carmakers provide an eight-year warranty on these parts, but Hyundai and Genesis go above and beyond to offer arguably the best EV warranty of any manufacturer.

2024 Genesis Electrified G80 Versus Its Competitors

Since the Genesis Electrified G80 is a luxury all-electric sedan, it needs to go head-to-head against the other top competitors in this space. Starting with the first luxury EV everyone’s familiar with, let’s see how the G80 compares to the Tesla Model S. Following that, a matchup against a relative newcomer, the Lucid Air, is awaiting the challenger from Genesis.

How The Genesis Electrified G80 Compares To The Tesla Model S

  • 2024 Genesis Electrified G80 2024 Tesla Model S
Model Genesis Electrified G80 Tesla Model S

    Charge Time 7 Hours @ 220V 7 hours
    0-60 MPH 4.1 Seconds 3.1-1.99 seconds

The Tesla Model S has been the face of the luxury electric car industry for years now, and few options on the market have been able to compare. Its performance and technology combined with its price make the Model S one of the best values you can find in a luxury EV, but the Genesis G80 puts up a solid fight.

Performance-wise, the Tesla takes the crown, with its 670-horsepower base model reaching 60 MPH in just 3.1 seconds, exactly one second faster than the G80 hits the mark. On the top-end, the Model S Plaid uses its 1,020 horsepower tri-motor setup to reach 60 MPH in just 1.99 seconds, making it more than twice as quick as the Electrified G80. It’s a good thing that the G80’s best attribute is not its power and performance, but its interior.

Inside the cabin, the Genesis offers a much more luxurious experience packed with more comfort and amenities. Teslas have always been known to come with a minimalist interior, which is one of the reasons they’re so much more relatively affordable, and it really shows when stacked up against the Electrified G80.

Last is the price, which is shockingly similar between the two. The Tesla Model S starts at $74,990 compared to the $74,375 of the Genesis, making it a wash. Upgrading to the Model S Plaid will set you back $86,990 while the Electrified G80 Prestige is just $79,125, but the Plaid offers way more than an extra $7,000 worth of performance. If you’re more interested in luxury and comfort, go with the G80. If you want something that will dust just about anything else on the road, the Model S is a no-brainer.

How The Genesis Electrified G80 Compares To The Lucid Air

    0-60 MPH 4.1 Seconds 4.5-1.89 seconds

One of the top competitors in the luxury EV space is the Lucid Air, which has something to offer just about anyone in the market for a new electric sedan. With its four trims, the Lucid Air provides a budget-friendly luxury EV with the Pure, it offers a class-leading range in the Touring and Grand Touring models, or you can get one of the quickest cars in the world with the Lucid Air Sapphire.

The base model, the Lucid Air Pure, starts at just $69,900 and offers many of the same luxurious amenities and comfort features that the Electrified G80 is known for. That said, the Air Pure is a little slower than the Genesis, but it still reaches 60 MPH in just 4.5 seconds. If you have the extra money and want all-out performance, the Lucid Air Sapphire costs $249,000, but it can go from 0 to 60 MPH in a blistering 1.89 seconds, beating even the Model S Plaid.

Arguably the best overall value of any of these cars is the Lucid Air Touring or Grand Touring models, which provide a balance of affordability, performance, and incredible range. The Lucid Air Grand Touring produces 819 horsepower, hits 60 MPH in just 3.0 seconds, and has the best range of any EV in the segment of 516 miles. This range is nearly twice that of the Electrified G80, but the Lucid also starts at $109,000, which is a pretty penny above what the Genesis costs.

How Much The 2024 Genesis Electrified G80 Costs

The base model of the 2024 Genesis G80, the Advance trim, has a starting price of $74,375, which is on par with other luxury EVs in its class. Stepping up to the Prestige trim adds $4,750 to the base price, bringing its starting cost up to $78,125. Additional costs that will drive the price up include certain paint colors, added features, destination fees to have it delivered, and more.

If you’re in the market for an EV that offers a good range – at least 300 miles – and doesn’t cost a bomb to buy, here are your 10 best options.

Is It Worth Buying A Genesis Electrified G80?

Genesis Electrified G80
Genesis

If you’re in the market for a new luxury electric sedan, the Genesis Electrified G80 is worth considering. With its starting price of under $75,000 for the base trim or under $80,000 for the Prestige trim, it has one of the most accessible price points of any car in the segment. That, combined with the extreme luxury inside the cabin, and best-in-class warranty thanks to parent company, Hyundai, the Electrified G80 should be near the top of your list.

That said, the performance of the electric version of the Genesis G80 is lacking compared to other luxury EVs, with both the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air offering faster cars that get significantly better range, without that much of a price jump (except for the Lucid Air Sapphire). With these two cars available for around the same price, there’s almost no reason to opt for the Electrified G80, unless you simply don’t want a Tesla and you don’t want to try a relatively new brand like Lucid.
