Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally: What You Get For $59,999

Ford Mustang Mach-E fans were disappointed when the brand decided to discontinue the GT Performance trim for 2024, but the Blue Oval thankfully keeps the thrilling flagship Rally trim with some moderate changes for 2024. This gravel-focused EV is based on the GT Performance derivative, but with some minor alterations to the suspension and cosmetics. This is an intriguing derivative, considering how the Mustang moniker is not really associated with rallying.

Regardless, given its crossover proportions, it is a special edition that makes sense. For 2024, Ford announces that the top-of-the-range trim starts at $59,995, which makes it quite a bit more expensive than the base Select model, which starts at $39,995. The Rally may seem like an over-priced special edition, but Ford includes quite a number of additional features to make it worth the $20,000 premium. This feature dives into all the standard and optional features available for this unique EV model.

In order to give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from various manufacturer websites and other authoritative sources, including the EPA, the IIHS, and the NHTSA.

The Mustang Mach-E is offered in an array of trims, but Ford has made sure the flagship GT trim has some exclusive things that others don’t.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally Costs $59,995

The Rally sits at the very top of the Mach-E hierarchy. It is based on the now-defunct GT Performance trim, which features a pair of permanent-magnet electric motors, but with 480 horsepower and an increased 700 pound-feet output. With the increased torque figure, the derivative lowers its claimed 0-60 MPH time to 3.4 seconds, but retains its 120 MPH limited top speed.

Ford also includes more driving modes, focused on different terrains, improving its high-speed versatility. Ford engineered the Mustang Mach-E Rally’s electric motors to handle high-performance driving without compromising refinement and comfort.

Performance Specifications

Powertrain Dual permanent-magnet motors
Horsepower 480 HP
Torque 700 LB-FT
Transmission Single-Speed Automatic
Battery 91 kWh Net
Range 265 miles
Fuel Economy TBA
0-60 MPH 3.4 Seconds
Top Speed 120 MPH

The Rally sits on the same independent front MacPherson strut and rear helical multilink suspension with gas-pressurized dampers, but Ford taps into its extensive off-roading traditions with a completely revised suspension setup that caters to gravel racing.

The unique offering adopts the GT Performance’s MagneRide active dampers, but with a 0.8-inch ride height increase and specific Brembo brakes for improved stopping abilities, coupled with 19-inch rally-specific alloy wheels and Michelin CrossClimate2 tires.

The Mustang Mach-E Rally’s 72 kWh Battery Covers 265 Miles

The Rally trim increases the Mach-E’s range to a claimed 265 miles thanks to new chemistry for the 91 kWh battery, which was introduced in 2023. The EPA is yet to publish the range’s energy consumption estimates, but for reference, the 2023 model year returned a 90/77/82 MPGe energy consumption figure on the city/highway/combined cycle.

The revised battery chemistry also equates to faster charging times. This unit recovers its full charge in 66 hours using a 120-volt Level One household plug. A Level Two 240-volt system at 48 amps reduces this to 10.9 hours. Ford’s new battery system cuts DC Level Three fast charging down to just 36 minutes, from a 10 to 80 percent charge state.

Range And Charging Times

Range 265 miles
Level 1 AC 120V Charging time (0-100%) 66 Hours
Level 2 AC 240V Charging time (0-80%) 10.9 Hours
Level 3 DC 440V Charging time (10-80%) 36 Minutes

All Mach-E models come standard with an AC charging cable. You can select the Ford Mobile Power Cord for $500, which includes a NEMA15-150-compatible outlet for 32-amp charging. Mach-E owners also get access to the BlueOval Charge Network, which consists of fast charging facilities all over the country, making long-distance travel an easier experience. The entire 2024 Mach-E range is now compatible with Tesla’s national supercharging network, but only if you get a NACS adapter.

The Mustang Mach-E has been subject to some recalls over the last two years, relating to an overheating battery pack and a software error that may cause unintended acceleration. Recalls are also issued for inadequate panoramic roof glass panel bonding and loose subframe bolts. The 2024 model year is not subject to any recalls at the moment. J.D. Power gives the Mach-E a 69/100 rating for quality and reliability, which it considers to be a Fair ranking.

Ford ensures the Rally derivative looks the part by adding a collection of special exterior components. Color options consist of Shadow Black, Glacier Gray, Star White, Eruption Green, Grabber Blue, and Grabber Yellow with a Black painted steel roof. Your only wheel option is the 19-inch High Gloss Oxford White set with black printed graphics and the aforementioned Continental tires.

Then there’s also the exterior rally-inspired decals, Dark Carbonized Gray exterior accents and moldings, a front recovery hook, fog lights integrated into the faux grille, and front and rear protective shields for the motors. Ford introduces a Ford Focus RS-inspired rear wing as the perfect finishing touch. If the stripes and decals seem too outlandish for you, Ford will remove them at no additional cost.

Other than that, the exterior adopts most of its design from the rest of the range. The Mach-E blends the original Mustang’s iconic muscle car design cues with new-age electric crossover elements. This is a marriage that frustrates a lot of die-hard fans, but its recent popularity proves it to be a winning combination.

This design project was led by Jason Castriota, while Chris Walter and Josh Greiner focused on the production model’s exterior and interior design, respectively. The silhouette adopts a trendy four-door fastback line, but with an increased roofline, translating into an athletic crossover coupe profile that doesn’t stray too far from the Mustang’s heritage.
