GMC recently debuted its new electrified Sierra EV on the web by pulling the digital drapes off its production-ready Denali Edition 1. The web debut arrives amid the Sierra EV’s anticipated arrival as General Motors continues pushing towards its transition towards electric vehicles, particularly as Ford beat the other Detroit Three to the electrified pickup punch with its Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck.

To commemorate the Sierra EV’s arrival, GMC will be launching its first set of production models with a limited and bespoke Edition 1. Like other “first edition” production models, the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 features a long list of unique standard features that are otherwise optional on regular production variants, as well as a few other touches and details to separate it from regular production variants.

Some of these standard features include GM’s latest CrabWalk system, which allows each of the front and rear axles to steer somewhat independently from each other, enabling lateral maneuvers not otherwise doable with a conventional one-axle steering system.

Other standard and notable highlights include GMC’s popular MultiPro MidGate, standard Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, four-wheel steering, and up to 10,000 pounds in max towing capacity.

10 Things You Need To Know About The GMC Sierra EV

The GMC Sierra EV is as emphatic as its sheer presence – the electric pickup truck combines luxury qualities with monstrous performance stats.

Fast Charging Allows 100 Miles Of Range In 10 Minutes

The GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 also boasts a manufacturer-estimated range of 440 miles, which the company claims is a greater number than what was initially estimated. Originally, GM engineers anticipated a range of around 400 miles.

That range is supplied thanks to a 200+Watt Ultium lithium-ion battery pack that can accept up to 800 volts of direct-current fast-charging that can supposedly supply up to 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. That massive battery pack also powers two dual permanent magnet motors driving both the front and rear axles, comprising GM’s E-4WD system.

Starting Price Of A Shade Under $100,000

The total power output is a manufacturer-claimed 654 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque when in “Max Power” mode. As a refresher, the Sierra EV utilizes the same Ultium powertrain platform that debuted with the GMC Hummer EV, which is also shared with Honda and Acura EVs. It’s all then cradled into GM’s latest BT1 electric vehicle modular architecture that will underpin all of the General’s in-bound lineup of electrified full-size pickup trucks and SUVs.

Think of it as an electric vehicle version of GM’s famed GMT body-on-frame truck and SUV platforms that have been serving as the backbone for its entire range of Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac rigs. So yes, that means we can expect electrified versions of the Chevy Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade IQ, on the horizon. GM already produces the electrified Chevrolet Silverado EV, the Sierra’s mainstream cousin.

The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will come with a maximum towing capacity of 10,000, which is 500 pounds more than the initial estimates, and haul 1,450 pounds, which is 150 pounds more.
