2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS electric sedan receives S-Class-inspired tweaks

It seems buyers of electric luxury sedans still yearn for the accoutrements found on traditional Mercedes-Benz limousines.

The electric 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS450 has been given a minor update, borrowing styling cues from the petrol-powered S-Class range – as well as a longer claimed driving range, now nearing 800km on a charge.

The updates are understood to precede a traditional mid-life facelift, due at a later date – given the EQS has only been on sale for three years, as Mercedes-Benz looks to reverse slowing sales in key global markets.

The most obvious upgrade to the EQS is its nose, with the grille panel now offered with chrome strips – akin to the more traditional grille found on its S-Class sibling – along with the iconic Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star bonnet ornament, which replaces a flat badge.

Claimed driving range has increased by more than 11 per cent – or 82 kilometres – to 799km on the WLTP test cycle, thanks to a new 118kWh battery, up from 108.4kWh.

Inside, the company’s ‘MBUX Hyperscreen’ is now standard in Europe, providing an ultra-wide 141cm display by combining three screens across the dashboard.

For those who option the Rear Comfort Package Plus – which includes rear-seat heating – the front passenger seat can fold forward to provide more legroom for the rear occupant, and the rear backrest can recline by up to 38 degrees.

While towing capacity has increased for European models, a change to Australian specifications has yet to be confirmed.

Improvements to the braking system have also been announced, along with the addition of a heat pump – which recycles heat from the inverter, electric motor, and battery to warm the cabin, thereby reducing the reliance on charge from the battery.

European models also receive updates to the advanced driver assistance systems, allowing automatic lane changes during highway driving.

Drive has contacted Mercedes-Benz Australia to confirm when the updates are expected to arrive on the EQS450 locally. Changes to the AMG EQS53 version are yet to be announced.
