The motoring TV show made famous by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May after their departure from Top Gear could return with a new format and a set of new presenters.
Amazon Prime’s The Grand Tour motoring series is rumoured to return to the streaming service with a new format and new presenters.
According to television media outlet Broadcast, Studio Lambert – the production company responsible for the show – has reportedly been given a new contract directed towards the development of a “fresh version” of the popular show.
There has been no official statement from the studio on whether the reboot will go into production, what it will cover or who could be considered to anchor the revamped series.
As Drive previously reported, The Grand Tour was hosted by famous motoring trio Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May before officially announcing their departure in December 2023.
Clarkson confirmed the end of their tenure on the motoring show in a previous interview with UK news outlet The Times, telling the publication: “We’re done. I have reviewed cars on TV since 1984. That’s 34 years. And after next year [2024], I won’t be doing that anymore.”
May told Radio Times in June 2023 they had no set plans to continue hosting The Grand Tour after their contracts expired.
“Some people have said we’ve been cancelled. But really we’re getting quite close to the end of our contracts, and we didn’t really have any particular plans to keep going because we’re really just getting a bit old,” he told the Radio Times.
“It might be time to let someone else have a crack at it.”
The Grand Tour’s last two-hour, 16-minute ‘special’ dubbed Sand Job – filmed in the Sahara Desert – is the penultimate instalment from the trio, and is planned to be followed by a final special set in Zimbabwe.
Clarkson, Hammond and May’s motoring television career spanned over two decades – rising to prominence as presenters on Top Gear before moving onto The Grand Tour in 2016, following their 2015 departure from the BBC series after Clarkson’s physical altercation with a producer.
