  • Lightweight design inspired by MotoGP Aprilia Racing Factory, limited to 28 units in US and Canada.

Sports bikes are special, regardless of their shapes and sizes. But in the middleweight segment, the Aprilia RS 660 stands out as even more special. It’s prepped for sporty riding, packed with features, and does not come off as a compromise sports bike like its rivals. Yes, it’s pricier than Japanese supertwins, but it’s undeniably more capable in most scenarios.

But what if we told you Aprilia had something even more special for you? It’s none other than the RS 660 Trofeo! It’s a track-only, limited-edition race bike version of the stock RS, loaded with everything you’d want your supertwin track special to be like. Here are the details.

The Aprilia RS 660 Trofeo is based on the standard RS 660, using the same frame and engine. But there are various hardware upgrades that make this one special. To start with, the parallel-twin engine is modified to squeeze out five more horses over the base RS 660. Doesn’t sound like much, but will make a difference when you’re shaving milliseconds off the lap time.

Engine Upgrades On The RS 660 Trofeo

  • Magnetti Marelli race ECU
  • Sprint racing air filter
  • SC-Project titanium full-system exhaust
  • Elimination of the secondary air system and thermostat
  • Simplified water tube kit
  • Left and right side engines covered with aluminum-reinforced protection

Apart from the engine, the suspension and braking get a revamp. The front suspension comprises KYB upside-down forks with a kit cartridge from Misano by Andreani. It’s adjustable for preload, rebound, and compression. On the back, it has the Ohlins AP948 monoshock with hydraulic brake adjustment and spring preload adjustment. The braking duties are handled by radial Brembo calipers, meanwhile.

Then there’s the electronics package; it’s nothing short of a superbike. The RS 660 Trofeo is packed with APRC rider aids, including wheelie control, traction control, and engine braking control. The ABS is disabled, though (duh!). You still get the same TFT dash, but it is now controlled with the Jet Prime left-hand switch panel configured for racing conditions.

The beauty of track-only motorcycles is that they don’t have to bother with legalities when it comes to the design. So, gone are the headlights, tail lamps, plate holders, and mirrors. The bike is clad in an Aprilia Racing Factory Team-inspired livery, and the fairings are now fiberglass instead of plastic. The design also accounts for the updated riding triangle with adjustable racing clip-ons and rear sets.

All these road-legal eliminations and fiberglass fairings make this bike incredibly light. The result is a punchy lightweight, middleweight supertwin that should help you beat your lap records. Sure, it may not be as fast as a thoroughbred liter-class superbike, but if horsepower isn’t your concern, you’d not be dissatisfied with this bike.

Coming in at just over $21,000, the Aprilia RS 660 Trofeo is an expensive motorcycle. It costs nearly twice as much as the standard RS 660, which comes in at $11,549. Spend a few more thousands, and you can even get the ridiculously powerful Ducati Panigale V4! But don’t let the price take away anything from this stunning motorcycle. It’s a middleweight like no other in today’s market.

This motorcycle is assembled in Noale by Aprilia Racing, with a limited production of just 1,500 units worldwide. Out of this, only 28 units will come to the US and Canada, combined. So if you have that kind of money, you can reserve the motorcycle today. Be quick, though.
