The main focus for the reveal of the new ID.Buzz GTX is the capabilities of the electric station wagon, being the most powerful production Bulli of all time. In total, the upcoming ID.Buzz GTX will produce 335 horsepower, seeing a 134 horsepower increase over the base model ’24 ID.Buzz.

Available in short-wheelbase and long-wheelbase variants, both models are powered by the same dual-electric motors. Most of the power for the ID.Buzz GTX comes from the 282 horsepower electric motor on the front axle, with a lesser 107 horsepower unit up front. Of course, the total output of two motors put together is 335 horsepower, but the 335 horsepower figure is what the battery is able to deliver at one time.

As for the batteries in the upcoming ID.Buzz GTX, the short-wheel base sees an upgrade from the standard model’s 77 kWh battery to 79 kWh. This gives the short-wheelbase model a charging capability of 185 kW, topping up the battery from 10 percent up to 80 percent in 26 minutes. Moving up to the long-wheelbase version, a larger 86 kWh net capacity battery and a peak charging capability of 200 kW, staying on par with the 26 minute-10 percent to 80 percent charge.

Due to now being a dual-motor vehicle, the ID.Buzz GTX comes with 4MOTION all-wheel-drive as standard, seeing a big boost in towing capacities. For the long-wheelbase version, the ID.Buzz GTX will be able to tow up to 3,968 pounds (1,800 kilos), while the short-wheelbase can tow 3,527 pounds (1,600 kilos). Thanks to all wheels being powered, the ID.Buzz GTX boasts some pretty impressive performance numbers, being able to go from 0-60 miles per hour in 6.5 seconds with a limited top speed of 99 miles per hour.

Alongside some improvements in the power department, Volkswagen has also made some changes to the design of the ID.Buzz. For the new top-spec model, the ID.Buzz GTX features more aggressive overall styling, which is most apparent with the revised front bumper. The size of the front grille has been reduced, opting for a bulkier main panel and triangular-shaped DRLs.

The ID.Buzz GTX also offers a new main color, Cherry Red, which can be chosen as a full-body color or a tow-tone option completed by a metallic silver top half. As well as a new color, the ID.Buzz GTX will come with a fresh set of 19-inch wheels as standard, but a more modern, futuristic design in 21-inch size will be available.


Further Updates To The Interior

The interior for the ID.Buzz GTX will also receive some slight tweaks, most notably with the dark-toned themed black and red theme. The seats are also slightly larger in the new model, with red stitching and lining complementing the black diamond-pattern Dynamica fabric on the seats. The red stitching also carries over to the steering wheel. Embedded in the seats is also the bespoke GTX red-stitched design.

Volkswagen has also significantly updated the interior tech features for the ID. Buzz, featuring the brand’s latest hardware and software. The center touchscreen display has been upgraded to 12.9 inches instead of the base model’s 12-inch screen, which comes with a faster processor for improved menu navigation and graphics. The GTX trim also comes with a new IDA voice assistant, which VW says is much more natural than before and is now integrated with ChatGPT artificial technology. A new illuminated touchbar also comes as standard, which controls temperature settings and volume levels.

Pricing for the VW ID.Buzz GTX hasn’t yet been announced, and the model is not expected to reach the dealership until late 2024. Pre-sales are to begin sooner, with VW announcing a summer window for those looking to purchase their new performance-oriented electric Bulli.
