Engine Specifications And Performance

Ford

The Blue Oval’s latest off-road SUV is exclusively powered by the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6, which they claim received “Raptor-level” tuning in order for it to meet Ford Performance’s standards. This statement was made quite literally in regard to the Bronco Raptor’s ability, as it’s 3.0-liter V-6 pumps out 418 horses at 5,750 revs. Not bad for a tough utility vehicle meant for exploring.

The 3.0-liter EcoBoost sends power to the standard 10-speed automatic transmission, which then powers the advanced 4WD. The 4WD system works in concert with the G.O.A.T (Go Over Any Terrain) system, allowing advanced terrain management for maximum traction all the time. The suspension received a major buff in the form of the Raptor HOSS 4.0 system with FOX Live Valve 3.1 internal bypass semi-active dampers, similar to the sophisticated damper units found on the 2024 F-150 Raptor.

Standard four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and electronic stability control ensure you maintain control over the bucking Bronco when rocking the cabin. Additionally, the intricate shocks and dampers help keep occupants composed thanks to their superb articulation. Keep in mind that Ford purpose built the 2024 Bronco Raptor with the intent of seeing it conquer various terrain. This mission called for not only advanced mechanics, but harmony among the vehicle’s unique build roster.

Towing Capabilities And Payload Capacity

As there is only one engine option, one transmission option, and one driveline configuration, the 2024 Bronco’s towing capabilities are simple to gauge. The towing capacity maxes out at 4,500 pounds, which out-pulls the standard 2024 Bronco’s 3,500 pound max. This is no doubt thanks to the more powerful 3.0-liter V-6, advanced 4WD, and superb suspension.

Off-road is where the Bronco Raptor shines, as its purpose resides in the overgrown trails and mud-bogged trenches. On top of the aforementioned suspension enhancements, the 2024 Bronco Raptor boasts a long list of off-road and terrain management functions that work in tandem to provide that go-anywhere attitude associated with Bronco, including standard Trail Control, Trail Turn Assist, Hill Start Assist, and Trail One-Pedal Drive. Front and rear Code Orange-colored tow hooks add a functional accent to the exterior appearance.

The 2024 Bronco Raptor rides on 37-inch BSW A/T-All Terrain tires, which provide ample grip in most scenarios, from snow to sand. Special Ford Performance control arms in the front and rear help deliver maximum wheel travel, which allows the off-roader to take full advantage of the semi-active suspension. The FOX Live Valve tech utilizes sensors to monitor changing road conditions and adjust hundreds of time per second. Electronically-locking front and rear axle and front stabilizer bar disconnect further the off-road control of the Bronco Raptor. Suffice to say, this bad boy is ready to tackle just about anything.

The 2024 Ford Bronco Raptor Versus Its Competitors

The Bronco has many competitors in base form, but as for the rowdy Raptor variant, we’ll have to dig a little deeper to find true competitors. The first manufacturer that should come to mind when discussing off-road SUVs is Jeep, the original go-anywhere utility vehicle and the grandfather of the SUV. Particularly the juiced up Wrangler Rubicon 392, because nothing says “Hell yeah, brother!” like a V-8 HEMI and nearly a foot of ground clearance.

Both the Rubicon 392 and Bronco Raptor are pricey models. An off-road SUV that is more relatable in terms of price and accessibility is the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser. The recent price drop makes the Land Cruiser more accessible to a wider market, as opposed to the previous generation’s outlandish premium price tag.

How The Bronco Raptor Compares To The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392

  • 2024 Ford Bronco Raptor 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392
Model 2024 Bronco Raptor 2024 Jeep Wrangler 392
    Engine: 3.0-L EcoBoost V-6 6.4-L HEMI V-8
    Torque 440 lb.-ft. @ 2,750 RPM 470 Lb.-Ft. @ 4,300 RPM
    Transmission 10-speed automatic 8-speed automatic
    Driveline 4WD 4WD
    MSRP $90,035 $89,390
Towing Capacity 4,500 pounds 3,500 pounds
    0-60 MPH 5.6 seconds 4.0 seconds
    Horsepower 418 @ 5,750 RPM 470 @ 6,000 RPM

The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 is a beast from another dimension. Packing the 6.2-liter HEMI V-8 that powers certain Challengers, Chargers, and Durangos, as well as the Jeep Cherokee SRT, the 2024 Rubicon 392 puts out 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. To make this monster even more impressive, Car And Driver‘s road test yielded a 0-60 MPH time of only 4.0-seconds. That’s competitive with the C6 Corvette’s numbers… Just saying.

The off-road prowess associated with Jeep holds firm in the Wrangler Rubicon 392. Boasting standard off-road equipment including large all-terrain tires, electronically disconnecting front anti-roll bars, and impressive approach and departure angles, the Rubicon is a true rock climber if ever there was one.

The big, sometimes stiff nature of the Wrangler Rubicon 392 is domineering, though at times less versatile than, say, the Bronco or Bronco raptor. That said, the Rubicon 392 can perform well on and off-road, whereas the Bronco Raptor focuses on off-road control.

How The Bronco Raptor Compares To The Toyota Land Cruiser

  • 2024 Ford Bronco Raptor 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser
    Engine: 3.0-L EcoBoost V-6 2.4-liter turbo inline-four hybrid
    Torque 440 lb.-ft. @ 2,750 RPM 465 LB-FT
    Transmission 10-speed automatic 8-speed automatic
    Driveline 4WD Four-wheel drive
    MSRP $90,035 NA (est. $55,000)
Towing Capacity 4,500 pounds 6,000 pounds
    Horsepower 418 @ 5,750 RPM 326 Horsepower

The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser made a welcome return, boasting a more reasonable price tag and some standard off-road equipment. Not only that, the Cruiser boasts a respectable towing capacity, even when compared to the Bronco Raptor. The standard i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain isn’t as powerful as the Bronco Raptor or the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392, but it makes good use of all 326 horses and 465 pound-feet of torque the 2.4-liter turbo-four produces.

The 2024 Land Cruiser is built on Toyota’s TNGA-F platform, Toyota’s modular workhorse which also underpins the new Tundra and Sequoia. The Land Cruiser’s turbo-four pairs with a standard eight-speed automatic transmission and full-time 4WD. A locking center and rear differential are standard and allow better traction in rough conditions, while a disconnecting front anti-roll bar and 33-inch tires are optional via the many grades and packages available for the 2024 Cruiser.

Surprisingly, the Land Cruiser boasts the larger tow capacity of the three models mentioned, with a total available tow rating topping out at a respectable 6,000 pounds. For reference, the Bronco Raptor can only tow 4,500, while the Rubicon 392 pulls the least weight, only able to tow 3,500 pounds.

While the Wrangler has dominated the off-road enthusiast space for decades, here’s how Ford’s resurrection of the Bronco poses as its biggest threat

How Much Does A 2024 Bronco Raptor Cost?

Historically, the Raptor nameplate doesn’t come cheap. That value is still relevant moving into the future of the Raptor family, as the 2024 Bronco Raptor will cost around $90,035. This makes the 2024 Bronco Raptor among the most expensive off-road SUVs on the market, with the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 starting at slightly less $89,390, and the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser starting in the mid-$50,000 range.

Official EPA ratings are unavailable at this time, though the Bronco Raptor did receive an estimated 15 MPG in the city and 16 MPG on the highway. This is an area where the 2024 Bronco Raptor loses points, as the MPG estimates are similar to that of the bigger F-150 Raptor. In fact, the Bronco Raptor gets an estimated 2 MPG less on the highway than its F-150 counterpart.

Is It Worth Buying The 2024 Ford Bronco Raptor?

The big question is: is the 2024 Bronco Raptor a good buy? Well, if you’ve got the funds to fuel the incredible experience that is Ford Performance’s Raptor, then the Bronco version may be worth a go. However, the high price point and lack of complimentary maintenance can be a recipe for auto shop gouging if you’re not mindful.

That said, The Bronco Raptor is built to withstand a beating, as observed in the copious underplating and tough wheel and body design. Simply put, anything with a “Raptor” badge will cost an arm and a leg, but the overall high-octane experience always seems to be worth it in a way. Maybe it’s the exclusivity, maybe it is the raw performance, maybe it’s the tough attitude. Either way, everyone wants a Raptor in some way, shape or form.

The demand for high-performance pickup, particularly from the Raptor family, has sparked a few copycats that aim to capitalize off the Raptor’s fame. These independent firms offer a budget-friendly way to obtain Raptor-level performance, or so they say. In reality, there’s nothing quite like a Ford Performance machine.
