10 Cars Being Discontinued For 2024

A bunch of new cars will launch in the US market this year. While we are excited about the debut of these vehicles, 2024 will also mark the departure of several popular models from U.S. shores. The list includes cars from many big automakers and spans across multiple segments, including compacts, sedans, SUVs, and sports cars. Stellantis is phasing out most vehicles as we move into the new year, with one vehicle going away from each brand.

There are a handful of reasons why brands are phasing out these cars. While some are going away because they have reached the end of their product life-cycle, others are being put to rest as their respective automakers rehash their model line-up with electric vehicles. In this article, we have compiled a list of the top ten cars that are being discontinued for 2024. While some of these vehicles are going away for good, a few can return as EVs.

Fiat 500x’s platform-mate, the Jeep Renegade, will also discontinue after the 2023 model year. With the Renegade going off the shelf, the Compass will become the brand’s entry-level offering. The Renegade was the only subcompact SUV in the U.S. market with off-road chops to match its beefy looks, especially with the Trailhawk package.

Though the turbocharged 1.3-liter engine in the Renegade lacked serious performance, the baby Jeep made up for it in other avenues. Its cabin was decently equipped, featuring an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment unit loaded with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Renegade also had all the latest driver assistance tech, such as adaptive cruise control.

9 Fiat 500X

Fiat

The 500X was the last gas-powered model for Fiat in the United States, and the brand has pulled it off the shelf for 2024. Fiat had already stopped the production of the 500 supermini and the 500l estate a while back. Based on the same platform as the Jeep Renegade, 500X’s SUV-ish design made it compete against the segment of sub-compact SUVs, which includes the Mazda CX-30, Kia Seltos, and Hyundai Kona.

Though the 500X lacks space compared to its rivals, it scores points in the looks department thanks to its retro design. The quirky aesthetics continue inside the cabin, where you’ll find a traditional gauge cluster and a 7-inch touchscreen central screen loaded with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Fiat will rejuvenate its line-up with the 500e soon. It is the electric supermini replacement for the gas-powered 500 and features a 118-horsepower electric motor and a 162-mile driving range.

8 Dodge Challenger

Aside from having special edition names from the muscle car’s past, these limited-run models also came with popular colors that Dodge used to offer on older Challenger models.

Chrysler plans to launch its first all-electric vehicle by 2025 and aims to switch to an EV-only brand by 2028. Chrysler has no confirmation on whether we’ll see an EV version of the 300 sedan.

Kia sent off the Stinger with a special Tribute Edition. This limited-run model was based on the twin-turbo V6 trims, with Kia producing only 1000 units. Mechanical, the Stinger Tribute edition remains identical to the regular models. But it came with a bunch of visual tweaks. Besides blacked-out trim pieces, two new exterior paint options were available: Ascot Green and Moonscape matte gray. On the inside, the Tribute edition came with minor updates over the standard Stinger models.

Besides the Renegade, Jeep is also pulling the plug on the Cherokee SUV for 2024. This move ends the iconic nameplate after a successful production run of nearly 50 years. Nissan will cease production of the Maxima going into the 2024 model year. The Japanese brand’s flagship sedan has been on sale in the United States since 1981. After nearly four decades and eight generations, the gas-powered Maxima will make way for a possible all-electric replacement.

Nissan hasn’t confirmed anything about Maxima’s future. But low sales are the main reason the brand has decided to pull the plug on this long-standing nameplate. With the Nissan Maxima gone, the Toyota Crown and the Volkswagen Arteon will remain the only large executive sedans on sale in the States.

Stellantis isn’t the only brand killing its high-performance models for 2024. Audi has also ended the production of its little sports car, the TT. After debuting in the U.S. market in 2000, the TT bids farewell, with its third generation being the last gas-powered model. The first-generation Audi TT has a curvaceous exterior design, which morphed into a wave-like shape for the second-generation model and was later transformed into a much sharper design for the final iteration. Through the years, the TT has had many engine options, with the 394-horsepower 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo-four available in the TT RS being the hottest one in its line-up.

The brand hasn’t announced a possible replacement for the R8. But if it ever happened, the vehicle will likely have an electric propulsion system.
