2024 Toyota RAV4: What’s new?

The last time we saw an all-new Toyota RAV4 was for the 2019 model year. With the pandemic years sandwiched between then and now, that seems like forever ago. And the next generation of this popular small SUV isn’t expected until 2027. While the RAV4 got a refresh in 2022, there were no big sweeping changes. Now, the 2024 Toyota RAV4 gets a couple more upgrades, but again, no major changes.

2024 Toyota RAV4 gets infotainment upgrade

Probably the biggest change you’ll see on the 2024 Toyota RAV4 is to the infotainment system. It finally adopts the latest generation Toyota Audio Multimedia system, which was introduced in the 2022 Toyota Tundra. This means it now has the “Hey Toyota” audio activation for voice commands as well as access to cloud navigation, Toyota’s intelligent assistant, dual Bluetooth phone connectivity, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and more.

Trail Mode is standard with AWD

Also new for 2024, models equipped with Toyota’s electronic on demand all-wheel-drive system will get standard trail mode, which will help better manage traction when going off road. The integrated control for the AWD, brake and drive force control systems acted as a virtual limited slip differential and deliver power to specific wheels for extra traction when needed.

Woodland Edition adds extras

This is the second year for the Woodland Edition in the RAV4 Hybrid lineup, and it gets a couple of upgrades. You’ll see a new two-tone paint combo as well as a standard 1-1/4-inch activity mount. This trim also adds an optional weather package with heated front seats, rain-sensing wipers and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.

The bottom line

Toyota is really good at not breaking what isn’t broken. The RAV4 is a strong-selling vehicle in its lineup, so the automaker will be slow to make changes – even though its biggest competitor, the Honda CR-V, was new for 2023. It’ll be interesting to see how RAV4 holds up over the next three years.
