Upcoming Melbourne car show to attempt a record next month

Thousands of fans are expected to descend on the Calder Park race track in Melbourne’s north-west for a display of collectible cars.

A new motoring event is set to be held in Melbourne next month, expected to draw thousands of visitors – and help attempt an international world record.

Global online car auction platform Collecting Cars – associated with journalist and former Top Gear presenter Chris Harris – has announced it will hold its next Australian Coffee Run event at Calder Park Thunderdome on Sunday 19 May, with an array of collectible cars expected to go on display.

The Melbourne show is planned to be connected with similar events around the world on the same day as part of the Collecting Cars Worldwide Coffee Run, intended to assemble a record number of car enthusiasts and create the largest-ever global car ‘meet’ of its kind.

“Melbourne’s vibrant car culture runs deep,” said Lee Hallett, Collecting Cars’ Sydney-based Head of Asia-Pacific. “It has a wonderful mix of European exotics, muscle cars and [Japanese] heroes – and everything in between.

Next month’s Melbourne Coffee Run follows a similar event in Sydney in, which drew more than 2200 cars including a McLaren Senna GTR and Lamborghini Diablo Roadster.

Collecting Cars, established in 2019, is said to hold more than 60 motoring events annually, and has sold 14,000 vehicles on its website during that time worth a collective $AU1 billion.
