It was meant to be the indirect replacement for the Kia Stinger – an electric high-performance sedan with a long driving range – but a new report claims the vehicle has been dropped from the company’s plans.
An electric performance sedan – previously reported as the spiritual successor to the Kia Stinger – may have been cancelled before it saw the light of day.
According to The Korean Car Blog, unnamed sources from within Kia have claimed plans for the so-called ‘GT1’ project – which may have been badged EV8 – have been dropped.
The website claims to have seen different drafts of internal manufacturing scheduling documents for Kia factories, showing the GT1 is no longer in line to begin production.
The vehicle was reportedly intended to be the indirect replacement for the twin-turbo V6-powered Stinger performance sedan, which ended production in 2023.

The Kia EV8 – or GT1, according to the project name – was slated to be on sale by 2026.
The GT1 was meant to have been the first Kia model based on the new-generation ‘eM’ electric-only architecture, shared with other brands across the Hyundai Motor Group.
While no figures were officially released, the electric Stinger replacement was said to produce up to 450kW from dual electric motors, one mounted to each axle – making it more powerful than a Kia EV6 GT.
The report claims the GT1 was planned to be fitted with a 113.2kWh battery – the largest battery ever on an electric Kia – offering a driving range of up to 800 kilometres.
