The 2024 Rivian R1T is available in three different trims, which can then be customized further with different battery options, of which there are four. These include the Standard 106.0 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery, Standard+ (121.0 kWh), Large (131.0 kWh), and Max (147.0 kWh). Somewhat oddly, the bigger battery packs do not correlate to more power, only longer range.

The base model R1T is the standard Dual-Motor all-wheel drive (AWD) that uses dual permanent-magnet motors to produce 533 horsepower and 610 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain can be paired with any of the four battery options depending on what you want to get out of it and how much you’re looking to spend. This trim, the slowest version of the truck, still goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour (MPH) in just 4.5 seconds.

Next up is the new Performance Dual-Motor powertrain, which is available with all but the Standard battery. This setup pumps out 665 horsepower and 829 pound-feet of torque, enough to hit 60 MPH in 3.5 seconds. If that’s not fast enough for you, then the Quad-Motor R1T might tickle your fancy. Its four-motor setup produces 835 horsepower and 908 pound-feet of torque, rocketing the truck from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.0 seconds, making it the quickest electric truck on the market.

Note that the Quad-Motor powertrain is only available with the Large battery pack, which is a bit strange that the brand’s top-tier pickup truck doesn’t come with the bigger Max battery. This leads to the Performance Dual-Motor offering arguably the best combination of power, acceleration, and range, with an impressive maximum range of 410 miles on a single charge. It just costs much more than any other R1T configuration you can buy.

Towing and Payload Capacities

All three trims offer the same 11,000-pound towing capacity, which is among the best towing capability of any electric truck. The R1T can stand up against most gas-powered trucks with this towing capacity, but keep in mind that hauling anything near this weight will cause the battery to drain significantly faster, so you’ll need to plan out your trips a lot more carefully if you’re loading the R1T up.

Rivian is a bit odd in how it talks about the charging rate for its batteries. Instead of giving a length of time for how long it takes to charge the batteries, Rivian only goes as far as to say how many miles of range you can charge per hour. It’s also worth noting that all four batteries charge at the same rate, which isn’t always the case. One good thing about charging the Rivian batteries is that you can get up to 140 miles of juice in just 20 minutes with DC Fast Charging, making it easy to get back on the road.

The Rivian R1T offers great cargo capacity for the segment, with the front trunk (frunk) providing 11.1 cubic feet of storage. The R1T also has an innovative gear tunnel storage space that adds another 11.7 cubic feet of space. Technology

Staring back at you while you’re driving the R1T are two digital screens that make up the dashboard, including a large 15.6-inch touchscreen mounted to the center of the dash for the infotainment system. The Rivian R1T comes with the manufacturer’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty, which offers expansive coverage across the board, though it differs depending on which trim you opt for. The warranty includes bumper-to-bumper coverage for 60 months/60,000 miles on the Quad-Motor configurations, but only 48 months/50,000 miles on other trims. The Quad-Motor trim with the Large batter pack receives an industry-leading 96-month/175,000-mile battery warranty, while other trims have battery coverage for 96 months/150,000 miles.

All trims come with a 96-month corrosion warranty with no mileage limit and a 12-month/12,000-mile adjustment warranty. Rivian also says that they provide 24/7 roadside assistance, but they do not provide a mileage or time limit on this service, so it may be in perpetuity for all Rivian drivers.

A battle among titans in the electric truck space, the Rivian R1T and the Ford F-150 Lightning have been battling since they were both released back in 2022. The biggest advantage of the Ford is its attractive entry-level price of $49,995 for the base model, about $20,000 less than the Rivian R1T starting price. Although the base model Rivian is faster and can tow more than the base Lightning, that cost difference is hard to make up for.

In terms of performance, no truck can compete with the Rivian R1T, not even the all-electric F-150 with its lightning-quick acceleration. The Rivian R1T might be one of the most versatile and most promising electric trucks on the market, but no model has gotten more attention than the Tesla Cybertruck. Through its controversial history in recent years, the Cybertruck has made a name for itself in a crowded EV space, and it has finally hit the road in the last few months, making it fair game to compare against the best models available like the Rivian.

First and foremost, the Cybertruck is the only model on the market that can compete with the Rivian in all-out performance. The Cyberbeast trim of the Cybertruck is claimed to reach 60 MPH in only 2.6 seconds, which will instantly make it the fastest electric truck you can buy. This tracks with other Tesla vehicles like the Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid, which have long been the quickest EVs in their segments.

Stepping inside the trucks, the interior of the Rivian R1T has a lot more to offer than the Cybertruck. All Tesla models have been known for their minimalist interiors over the years, and the new Cybertruck is no exception. The single touchscreen mounted to the monolithic dashboard looks lackluster compared to the R1T’s interior, and the Rivian provides that luxurious feel that you would expect from an EV in this price range. How Much A 2024 Rivian R1T Costs

The base model Rivian R1T Dual-Motor truck has a starting price of $69,900. Upgrading to the Performance trim adds $5,000 to that, and then you also have to upgrade to the Standard+ battery for another $3,100, bringing the starting price to $78,000. On this trim, you can also upgrade to the Large and Max battery packs for additional range, with the most expensive configuration being the Performance trim with the Max battery, starting at $94,000.

Opting for the performance-oriented Quad-Motor setup will limit you to only the Large battery pack, but the starting price comes down to $87,000. With this setup having by far the best performance while also coming with the second-biggest battery, you’d be hard-pressed to justify paying more for the lower trim!

Is It Worth Buying A Rivian R1T?

If you’re in the market for an all-electric pickup truck, the Rivian R1T should be at the very top of your list. The R1T might offer the best versatility on the market in terms of acceleration, off-roading, towing, and cost of any truck that money can buy. It really is a jack-of-all-trades in the electric truck segment, except it does everything exceptionally well. The single biggest con of the R1T is its lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but you might be willing to overlook that for neck-breaking acceleration.

One of the only other trucks that should be at the top of your list with the R1T is the Ford F-150 Lightning, which provides arguably the best value of any electric truck on the market. After all, it was named TopSpeed’s EV of the year for a reason. The recent release and delivery of the Cybertruck also tosses a new name into the ring, with the Cyberbeast trim being the only truck that can come close to the performance of the R1T, much less beat it outright in a drag race.
