Summary

  • Maserati’s electric lineup includes GranTurismo, Grecale, and now the 2025 GranCabrio Folgore.
  • GranCabrio Folgore features powerful electric motors, impressive range, and fast-charging capabilities.
  • The convertible Maserati EV offers a stunning design, a luxurious interior, and a quick retractable soft top.

Like many other carmakers, Maserati is slowly entering the fully electric era. And it’s not messing around. Thanks to recent investments by the Stellantis conglomerate, the legendary trident-wearing Italian brand made it very clear that it plans on electrifying its entire lineup of cars and SUVs through the Folgore nameplate.

First came the GranTurismo Folgore luxury sports coupe, followed by the Grecale Folgore, the brand’s latest compact luxury electric SUV. And now there’s this; the 2025 GranCabrio Folgore. It’s the first convertible electric vehicle (EV) for Maserati and, perhaps more importantly, the first-ever luxury convertible EV, period. And it packs one heck of an electric punch.

2025 Maserati GranCabrio Folgore Side Profile

It comes as no surprise that the 2025 Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is essentially a topless version of the GranTurismo Folgore sports coupe. Everything underneath its svelte body is therefore identical, meaning it still rides on the old FCA Giorgio platform shared with the Alfa Romeo Giulia, and not Stellantis’ new, STLA Large EV-dedicated architecture. The GranCabrio Folgore is therefore an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle that was converted for EV duty.

It nevertheless remains an impressive piece of engineering and not just a pretty body sitting on revamped Chrysler internals. It’s powered by a liquid-cooled, lithium-ion battery whose nominal capacity is rated at 92.5 kWh (83-kWh usable). The battery itself was apparently entirely manufactured in-house at Maserati’s Mirafiori Battery Hub assembly plant in Turin, Italy.

That battery then powers three radial-flux electric motors, two on the rear axle and one on the front, for a total combined output of 560 kW, or the equivalent of 751 horsepower and 996 lb-ft of torque at the wheels. However, a MaxBoost feature cranks the horsepower up to 610 kw (or 818 horsepower) for period of time.

This trimotor technology also allows the GranCabrio Folgore to be rear or all-wheel drive, depending on situations and drive modes. Its system can completely turn off the front motor and become purely rear-wheel drive. It can even channel up to 400 horsepower to a single wheel, which should help this elegant convertible perform gracious powerslides.

2025 Maserati GranCabrio Folgore Range And Charging

In terms of range, Maserati promises between 419 and 447 km, or 260 to 278 miles. However, these numbers are based on Europe’s Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP). We’ll need to wait for official EPA and Natural Resources Canada ratings for a more accurate range estimate.

Charging on a compatible fast charger is rated at 270 kW or the equivalent of 60 miles in the span of 5 minutes. The Folgore’s electrical system can switch between 800 and 400v according to the type of DC fast charger it’s connected to. The onboard level 2 charger for home charger is rated at 22 kW, or the equivalent of 60 miles of range within an hour. These, by the way, are very competitive specifications for an EV.

2025 Maserati GranCabrio Folgore Full Dashboard

As for the rest, it’s everything we should expect from a convertible Maserati sports car: incredibly sexy styling, a highly luxurious and comfortable interior, as well as a retractable soft top that apparently only takes 15 seconds to drop at a cruising speed of up to 50 kilometers/hour / 31 miles/hour. No pricing has yet been announced, but I expect this thing to be expensive. Topspeed.com will try to get its hands on a press unit to see how it performs out there in the real world.
