AMG is well known as the performance division of Mercedes Benz. Their goal is to take regular Mercedes vehicles and turn them into more powerful and capable versions. The ultimate cars used to be the Black Series models, which were even crazier versions of already supped-up AMG vehicles. But recently, AMG has started building cars from the ground up that aren’t based on any existing vehicle. It started with the SLS AMG and continued with the AMG GT, but Mercedes decided to build its fast family car.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door is what you get when AMG decides it wants to build its family car. It has all the ingredients befitting an AMG vehicle, which means great looks and a big powerful engine. But beyond that, it has been refined to be one of the best family cruisers with great technology and comfort. 2023 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4-Door: Performance, Price, And Photos

Big on power and big on practicality, the AMG 4-Door coupe is an uncompromising sport sedan that packs a lot of character

The 4-Door AMG GT

After AMG built the two-door AMG GT, they decided to make a four-door version of the same vehicle and that is the AMG GT 4-Door. It was unveiled in 2018, which was four years after the introduction of the AMG GT. AMG still refers to this vehicle as a coupe because of its design which was heavily influenced by the AMG GT. It also seemed to combine the personalities of other Mercedes like the E-Class, CLS, and the AMG GT. The sloping design and frameless windows further reinforce the fact that this is a four-door coupe.

Sleek Exterior Design

The concept of this vehicle was first teased in 2017 and the final production was released in 2018 with a striking resemblance. The front end has AMG’s Panamericana grill with huge vents to supply enough air to the engine. Its sleek headlights look like eyes staring into your soul and the public has said the entire front looks like the face of a shark. It’s a beautiful face with a fierce look.

The side profile looks like a stretched two-door AMG GT but with good proportions and extra rear doors. It also gets a variety of wheel designs and sizes, ranging from 19–21 inches. At the rear, it looks very similar to the two-door AMG GT similar taillight design, and different style quad exhaust tips depending on the trim. You also get an integrated active spoiler or a fixed one if you equip the aero package.

Luxury Features and Technology

Mercedes-AMG GT53 4-Door Interior

The AMG GT 4-Door has a lot of interior features and technology integrated into its system to make it pleasant and comfortable. Step inside, and you are greeted with one of the most beautiful interiors in the automotive space. AMG took their time to make you want to spend a lot of time here. You’re greeted with two 12.3-inch digital displays, one for the instrument cluster and another for the infotainment. It has the latest MBUX interface from Mercedes, which includes a lot of features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, voice assistant, and a host of other services.

The AMG steering looks great with the mode select buttons with tine screens on them showing which mode you’ve selected. The dashboard has a clean look with turbine-style air vents that grab your attention. It has a familiar layout we’re used to seeing in other models like the E63 AMG but with specific design touches like the air vents and center console which are outside the AMG GT.

You also have a complete leather interior with optional Nappa leather if you want a more premium-feeling interior. You can seat five people comfortably or just four if you opt for the executive rear seat package with two individual seats. Other interior features and technology include:

  • Heated power front seats with memory
  • Remote Start via Mercedes me Connect Mobile App
  • 64-color LED ambient lighting
  • MB-Tex/microfiber upholstery
  • Power Liftgate
  • Illuminated entry system
  • AMG illuminated front door sills
  • Garage door opener
  • Brake HOLD feature

Interior and Cargo Space

The GT 4-Door is a mix of different vehicle configurations in one. It is a 4-door family car which means it seats up to five people, but the sloping coupe design eats into the rear passenger headroom. This also affects the boot space with the hatch design, which is more space than a sedan but less space than a wagon at 12.7 cubic feet. For comparison, the E63 AMG sedan has 13.1 cubic feet while the Wagon has a minimum of 35 cubic feet of cargo space. A Porsche Panamera has more cargo space than the GT 4-Door at 17.6 cubic feet.

There are two engines available for the AMG G 4-Door, which starts with an inline six turbo hybrid engine. This engine is only available on the 43 and 53 models, with the GT43 making 362 horsepower, but in the GT53 it puts out more power at 429 horsepower. Both vehicles feature AMG’s nine-speed torque converter automatic paired with an AMG 4-Matic all-wheel drive system.

The 63 models switch to the big boy engine, which is the famous 4.0 later twin-turbo V-8 used across all V-8-equipped AMG models. The base GT63 makes 577 horsepower, which is standard for this engine, but puts out 630 horsepower in the GT63S and packs a punch. Having this much power in a family car is already crazy, and AMG also introduced a hybrid version of the GT63, which is but a tad bit more tamed.

AMG GT63S E-Performance

The GT63S E-performance may be a mouthful, but it is the most powerful AMG vehicle on sale, excluding the AMG One hypercar. Its engine still makes 630 horsepower, but when paired with the hybrid system, that number jumps up to 830 horsepower. It is the most powerful family vehicle on sale today. All 63 models use AMG nine-speed multi-clutch transmission which is different from the lower trims. Power is to all four wheels via the Mercedes 4-Matic+ system, although it’s equipped with a “drift mode” that turns it into a rear-wheel drive tire slayer.

There are also various drive select modes to choose from, but some are only accessible on higher trims and they include:

AMG GT43 and GT53: Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Slippery and Individual.

AMG GT63: Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Slippery, Race, Drift Mode and Individual.
