Cupra expands Australian showroom network

The Spanish subsidiary of Volkswagen is continuing to grow its Australian dealership network with new locations on the eastern seaboard.

Cupra Australia is due to open four new dealerships and service locations this month in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, the company has announced.

Earlier this month it opened a dealership and service centre in Brisbane’s CBD, and a service centre on the Central Coast in New South Wales.

They are due to be followed by a new service centre in Macarthur, in Sydney’s south-west, and a pop-up sales and service centre in Tullamarine, on Melbourne’s outskirts, before a permanent location opens nearby in Essendon Fields in 2025.

A ‘pop-up’ sales location is planned to open in Macarthur before opening a permanent showroom there in 2025.

It currently operates two dealerships (called ‘Garages’) in New South Wales, one in Victoria, two in Queensland, and one each in Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory.

The Volkswagen-owned car brand has 10 service centres across Australia, with at least one in every state and territory except the Northern Territory – where it does not have a footprint in sales or servicing.

“As a young brand which has just sold its 5000th car in this country, one of our primary objectives is giving our customers confidence. We’ve been aggressive in our expansion plan and will continue to be to support that goal,” Cupra Australia director Ben Wilks said in a media statement.

In 2023, the Spanish car maker – part of the Volkswagen Group – reported 3765 vehicles as sold in Australia. It says 38 per cent of its deliveries were hybrid or electric models.

Its top-seller was the Cupra Formentor which is available with plug-in hybrid and pure petrol power.

Last year Cupra introduced the Born electric car, which was the company’s next best seller for 2023 – though it fell short of the target of 1000 deliveries last year it set at the car’s launch.

Alongside its growing dealer network, Cupra plans to expand its line-up in 2025 with the Terramar mid-size petrol and hybrid SUV, and Tavascan electric SUV.
