WSBK Domination Worth Celebrating

It was 26 July 2009, when the Aprilia RSV4 won its first World Superbike Championship, ridden by Max Biaggi on the Brno Circuit. This was only the beginning of the RSV4, as the bike has dominated racetracks across the world, winning seven world titles, 44 wins, and 102 podiums. The RSV4 and Tuono V4 SE-09 SBK edition celebrate not only the 2009 win but also the domination that followed. And as an ode to its recent MotoGP performance, Aprilia factory riders (Maverick Vinales and Aleix Espargaro) unveiled the special editions, which will be on display at COTA this weekend.

Stunning Livery Inspired By Max Biaggi’s WSBK Monster

The biggest change you’ll notice on the special edition bikes is the stunning livery, inspired by Max Biaggi’s WSBK racer. It’s dominated by black with strokes of Aprilia red and white across the fairings. The brushed aluminum frame shines through, gliding into the MotoGP-inspired swingarm. The V4 flagships are already beautiful as standard, and the new livery adds a special touch to them.

Apart from the pretty livery that hides the monstrous performance of the machines, the SE-09 SBK versions also come with a few more add-ons. The two main additions are the carbon fiber front brake air intake and the front mudguard, making you feel like a racer on the road. Lastly, there’s the progressive model numbering on the fuel tank, reminding you that you’re riding a limited edition special at all times.

The Underpinnings As Monstrous As The Factory Editions

Both the SE-09 edition motorcycles are based on the RSV4 and Tuono Factory variants, so you can expect the same exhilarating performance here, too. The Factory variants boast top-spec components that make the bike so good, it should be illegal to mod them. For instance, you get Aprilia’s APRC suite, Brembo monobloc calipers, Ohlins Smart EC2.0 semi-active suspension, and forged aluminum wheels.

Underneath all that hides the explosive V4 engine. The Tuono V4 gets the 175 horsepower 1,077cc V4 while the RSV4 gets the explosive 217 horsepower 1,099cc V4. They are some of the most powerful motorcycles you can buy in the US. We can see why Aprilia didn’t bother giving these special edition bikes a performance boost, although a few more ponies would’ve been nice. Or at least a performance exhaust.

Unlike some other special edition motorcycles available on the market, you won’t have to pay a premium for the Tuono V4 and RSV4 SE-09 SBK variants. The former gets a modest hike of $400, while the latter gets a hike of $500. It seems well worth it because the front brake scoops alone cost $265.50! The motorcycles will arrive at your nearest Aprilia dealerships in June.
