One of the most iconic Holden Commodores ever made is back on the market, but this one has arguably the most prominent history of any Group A model ever sold.
The 1985 Holden VK Commodore SS HDT Group A which broke records as one of the most expensive Australian road cars ever sold is back on the market.
Owned by the late racing legend Peter Brock when new, the special ‘Blue Meanie’ HDT Group A was build number #005 of 500, and sold in May 2021 for $1.14 million by Grays Auctions.
Now the vehicle is being offered by online auction platform Collecting Cars, with a mere 79,724 kilometres on the odometer – travelling just 2185km in less than three years.
Brock helped develop the SS as a homologation special for racing, with the 4.9-litre V8 spending 196kW to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential.
Consider a Ferrari 400i from the same year produced just 32kW more from its fuel-injected 4.8-litre V12.

The HDT is finished in iconic Formula Blue paint with white 16-inch alloy wheels, while inside the car features Scheel front sport seats, a leather Momo steering wheel, a plaque on the glovebox, and a Peter Brock-branded radio cassette player.
Accompanying the car is a letter of authenticity on HDT letterhead, signed by Brock’s longtime teammate, the late John Harvey, as well as a large folder with invoices and paperwork documenting the vehicle’s history.
Bidding was just over $300,000 at the time of writing, with the auction ending on Thursday, 11 April 2024 at 4:30pm.
