2025 Indian Scout Classic: A Comprehensive Guide On Features, Specs, And Pricing

Indian Motorcycle draws on its deep historical roots for the design inspiration when building the new MY2025 Scout Classic, and it shows through the wire wheels and full fenders. The Scout Classic lives up to its name with old-school features to go with its new engine and frame that together elevate the Scout to new heights of performance. This is a very flexible model with a full range of optional accessory packages to quickly set it up for commuting, light touring, or just prowling around town in style. Additionally, get the Scout Classic with any of the three tech trim levels, so you can choose between the various ride-safety and infotainment electronics to get exactly what you want from your bike.

Mike Dougherty, President of Indian Motorcycle says,

“Scout is the most iconic American cruiser of all time and is synonymous with the Indian Motorcycle brand. As our top-selling platform, Scout has long been a staple in our lineup. And while riders around the world love the current Scout offering, we’re excited to take it to the next level and continue its evolution with a robust offering of models to meet the diverse needs of our global riding community.”

Rebuilt from the ground up, it’s the best Scout the Scout has ever been

2025 Indian Scout Classic

Expert Opinion: The new Indian Scout Classic is a nice looking design with crafty mix of classic and contemporary features along with contrasting finishes to make the magic happen. The performance-oriented new engine and nimble chassis combine to make a spirited new addition to the Scout family. If I could change one thing, it would be for more adjustability in the suspension components. Better color choice at the lower tiers would be nice as well.

What’s New For 2025

The Scout family underwent a fairly major rebuild ahead of MY25 that touches on virtually every element of the bike from the previous generation. New bones set the stage with old-school geometry and RWU forks, while the sheet metal parts roll with refined shapes to update the look right along with everything else. Indian powers it with its new SpeedPlus engine, a 1,250 cc V-twin that adds a performance edge, and you can choose between any of the three new available tech trim levels to complete the package for an excellent level of flexibility in a bike this size. You can also choose between a quartet of Accessory Collections to further dial in the design to suit your purpose.

  • Old-school good looks
  • Classic sheet metal
  • Chrome laced wheels
  • Broad selection of tech and accessories
  • Powerful new SpeedPlus engine

2025 Indian Scout Classic Performance And Capability

Indian Motorcycle

Indian built a brand-new engine to propel its Scout line into the immediate future and bring it up-to-date with the current technology. The new SpeedPlus engine comes with a performance bent to appeal to a broader swath of riders and add a performance edge to the already popular Scout family. Dual over-head cams time the four-valve heads with water cooling to deal with the waste heat. It runs a 104 mm bore and 73.6 mm stroke for a total displacement of 1,250 cc (76 cubic inches) and a spicy, 12.5-to-1 compression ratio that’ll demand premium, 91-octane fuels to prevent knock, ping, and run-on.

The 2025 Indian Scout Classic produces 105 horsepower and 82 pound-feet of torque. You may notice this is lower than the 101 Scout’s performance figures, and I think the difference is that the 101’s engine comes with variable valve timing while the rest of the Scout lineup does not. Don’t get me wrong, this is no dog, not by a long shot, it’s just packing a few less ponies than the performance Scout model is all. A 60 mm throttle body meters the dino juice through electronic fuel injection, while the tuned, 2-into-1 exhaust system carries off the waste.

Power flows through a gear-type primary drive and wet clutch ahead of a six-speed transmission and carbon-reinforced, belt-and-pulley final drive. As for the tech trim packages, the Standard Trim has nothing for the engine, but the Limited Trim adds a trio of selectable ride modes and traction control to the mix, while the Limited +Tech Trim brings Indian’s RIDE COMMAND infotainment to the table for a rare level of electronic support at this displacement.

Stylish and fast, the Indian Scout Bobber makes for a great daily rider

Design And Styling

The Scout Classic channels the vibe of yesteryear but doesn’t sacrifice much in the way of performance to achieve this. Largely this comes down to the full-length fenders, right-way-up front forks, and laced wheels. Copious blackout treatment gives it sinister undertones, but not to the exclusion of any brightwork for a nice, custom-style, contrasting mix of finishes. The cockpit is clean with only a four-inch round gauge to handle everything up to and including the infotainment interface, should you spring for that Limited +Tech package.

The 3.4-gallon fuel tank rocks a similar swoop to the previous gen, but with a slightly different updated shape and tasteful tank graphic to set it apart from its forebears. A solo seat rides at 25.7 inches high to give you confidence at stops and when padding around the parking lot, and the forward foot controls leave room to accommodate a range of inseam lengths. It has no passenger capacity in stock condition, but that’s easily remedied if you like to share the fun with a friend. This bike is an interesting collection of contrasts between its old-school bodywork and modern, performance-driven engine.

Chassis And Handling

Indian Motorcycle

The tubular frame is new for this latest generation Scout platform, even if it maintains the downtube/cradle construction and that whiff of a rigid rear end due to the frame geometry and laid-over, coil-over rear shocks. Rake and trail measure at 29 degrees and 4.8 inches respectively to give the Scout Classic some stability for low-fatigue riding, especially at highway speeds and higher. A full-yoke swingarm completes the bones and contributes to the kinda-sorta faux-rigid rear-end thing the Scouts have going on. It doesn’t go as far as a Softail or Bonnie Bobber for instance, but it still has the suggestion, and that’s enough.

A set of 41 mm forks float the front end on 4.7 inches of travel, but no adjustments. Out back, the rear shocks come with the obligatory spring-preload adjustment and 3 inches of travel, but nothing else. Naturally, the laced chrome wheels pay dividends toward that classic look that’s so important, it’s part of the model’s name. Fat Pirelli Night Dragon hoops line 16-inch spoke wheels in a 130/90 and 150/80 on the front and rear respectively, with an H speed rating. As for the anchors, the Scout Classic relies on a single, 298 mm front disc and twin-pot caliper to do most of the work, followed by another 298 mm disc and a single-piston anchor. ABS comes as part of the stock, bottom-tier tech package.

2025 Indian Scout Classic Versus Its Competitors

Old-school builds like this aren’t as plentiful as the later models. However, there are a few likely suspects that may appeal to the same sort of buyer, namely the Triumph Bonneville Bobber and Harley-Davidson Nightster.

How The Indian Scout Classic Compares To The Harley-Davidson Nightster

  • 2025 Indian Scout Classic 2024 Harley-Davidson Nightster
    Model Scout Classic Nightster

    Torque 82 LB-FT @ 6,300 RPM 72 LB-FT @ 5,750 RPM
    Driveline RWD RWD
    MSRP $13,999 – $16,699 $11,999

Harley-Davidson does the least to make its entry look like an older bike. The Nightster is more like a classic design that has evolved into a modern bike while maintaining certain genetic markers that tie it to the past. This includes the fender shapes and the fuel tank that sports a peanut tank-like profile that goes back at least to 1952 with the K-Model. Naturally, the V-twin engine plays a role in the look as well, but even though it’s a thoroughly modern mill, the Revolution Max 975T falls short with 91 ponies and 72 pound-feet of torque on tap. To Harley’s credit, the ABS, Traction Control, and Drag-Torque Slip Control System all come stock with no need to upgrade. Suspension is comparable, though the Showa Dual Bending Valve forks on the Nightster deliver a superior ride to the vanilla forks on the Scout. Plus, you can get it as an A2-compliant machine that can take you through that phase and into the next. At only $11,999 to start, the Nightster is a bit more budget-friendly at the checkout.

How The Indian Scout Classic Compares To The Triumph Bonneville Bobber

  • 2025 Indian Scout Classic 2024 Triumph Bonneville Bobber
Engine 1,250 cc V-twin 1,200 cc parallel twin
    Transmission 6-speed manual 6-speed manual
    Horsepower 105 HP @ 7,250 RPM 76.9 HP @ 6,100 RPM
    Torque 82 LB-FT @ 6,300 RPM 78.2 LB-FT @ 4,000 RPM
    Driveline RWD RWD
    MSRP $13,999 – $16,699 $13,995

Triumph is another global giant with its own deep roots in the motorcycle world. The Bonneville Bobber really pulls you back in history with its own version of the Softail rear end, so the bike looks like an old rigid from way back in the day. Old-school fenders join the classic teardrop fuel tank, complete with knee pockets, for a genuine antique look, and the solo seat is straight out of history books. The color choice is more interesting with four choices, which include a fabulous Stealth Edition colorway that combines Sapphire Purple and Silver Purple, and I usually don’t even like purple. The parallel-twin Bonneville engine is the weakest yet with 76.9 ponies and 78.2 pounds o’ grunt, and there are no electronics, making it fall further behind. The $13,995 sticker doesn’t do it any favors either.

He Said/She Said

He Said

“Nice looking ride. I kind of like how they smoothed out the corners of the tank a bit this time around, and I’m definitely a fan of the mix of blackout and chrome throughout the build. The performance is a hit as well, to make this a bike with both show
and
go. Perhaps best of all is the flexibility it brings to the table between the tech choices and the accessory packages.”

She Said

My wife and fellow motorcycle writer, Allyn Hinton, says,

“This is a nice update to the Scout family. I feel like this is the Scout it should have always been. Agile handling and a sporty new engine provide the base and the trim packages and accessory groups really dial it in to make the Scout Classic just what you want your bike to be.”
