The fresh-faced 2008 has landed in Australia with sharper styling, mechanical upgrades and more equipment levels with a $1000 price rise.
- 2024 Peugeot 2008 pricing and specifications
- Facelifted two-tier petrol range with eight-speed auto now standard
- Additional tech includes wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, front parking sensors
- Priced from $39,990 before on-road costs
The 2024 Peugeot 2008 compact SUV has arrived in Australian showrooms bringing an updated design, more equipment and a higher starting price for a two-model petrol-powered line-up with better fuel economy.
An updated e-2008 electric model is expected later in the third quarter (July to September) of 2024, with exact timing yet to be confirmed by Peugeot Australia. The existing e-2008 will be sold alongside the newly updated petrol 2008s in local showrooms in the meantime.
The Peugeot 2008 was introduced to Australia in July 2020 and has a five-star ANCAP rating from a 2019 test.
The compact SUV has received minor line-up changes including a mid-spec GT Sport variant added in 2022 since dropped, with two models – the Allure and GT – using the same 1.2L engine but with an eight-speed transmission replacing the previous six-speed for 2024.
The fresh exterior design brings new 17-inch ‘Karakoy’ diamond cut alloy wheels standard on both models, with the 2008 Allure priced from $39,990 before on-road costs and the 2008 GT now $44,490.
Exterior changes are led by the latest Peugeot logo, unveiled in 2021, with matt black badging in a new grille featuring colour-coded slats, tweaked LED headlights and three ‘claw’ daytime running lights (DRL) lower front bumper LEDs.
The 2008’s side mirrors are now finished in black, with six horizontal LED tail-lights – up from three – creating a ‘three-dimensional effect’ at the rear where there are also new chrome exhaust tips.
Sellenium Grey has been introduced as new no-cost option exterior colour, with Okenite White – a metallic colour costing $650 extra – also new for 2024.
Inside, the updated Peugeot logo is proudly centred on the steering wheel, with new materials and leather-effect seat trims alongside a larger high-definition 10-inch centre infotainment screen and 10-inch ‘i-Cockpit’ digital instrument cluster as standard.
For the Allure, the i-Cockpit is fully configurable, with the GT adding three-dimensional graphics as well as satellite-navigation with over-the-air updates, a frameless auto-dimming mirror and automatic on/off headlights.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity are standard on both models, as well as new faster-charging USB-C ports, with the GT featuring wireless smartphone charging.
The GT also brings eight-colour ambient interior lighting, as well as Alcantara/leather seating and steering-wheel wrap, with heated/cooled electrically adjustable front seats.
The entry-level Allure now comes with front parking sensors – previously unavailable – in addition to the standard rear sensors, with ‘Close obstacle detection’ functionality.
The larger 10-inch centre screen functions as a 180-degree reversing camera on Allure while offering a 360-degree view on GT.
The 2008 GT now has Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go function as standard, joining Blind Spot Detection and Active Lane Following Assist Driver Assistance Technology.
The 1.2L three-cylinder turbo remains the same for both petrol models, producing 96kW and 230Nm, but with both using an eight-speed automatic transmission where the Allure previously used a six-speed.
Official fuel consumption figures have improved significantly to 5.4L/100km combined – an improvement of 1.1L/100km – with 6.3L/100km city cycle and 4.8L/100km highway cycle claims.
The Peugeot 2008 comes with a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and five-year roadside assistance.
Service intervals for the 2008 are 15,000km/12 months, with Peugeot offering capped price servicing, but also offers more affordable pre-paid service plans priced at $950, $1400 and $1700 for three, four- and five-year periods respectively.
