The E-Ray is one of very few mid-engined crossplane V-8 hybrid models currently available. When operating without any electrical assistance, this powertrain produces 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet to the rear axle. GM constructs the entire unit with 319-T7 cast aluminum, and kits it out with cast-in iron cylinder liners and nodular main bearing caps with a dry sump and dual-overhead valves with variable valve timing. The engine boasts an 11.5:1 compression ratio and reaches peak power at 6,450 RPM, but it can spin all the way to 8,600 RPM.

All models come standard with the Tremec TR-9080 M1L eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Despite being a hybrid, the E-Ray isn’t particularly efficient, as the EPA estimates a combined 19 MPG fuel consumption return, but tests confirm you can get 23 MPG when consistently driving 75 MPH.

The E-Ray’s Battery Has A Four Mile Range Claim

The E-Ray is not a PHEV, so its electric capabilities are highly limited. With 1.9 kWh of capacity from the compact lithium-ion battery. Chevrolet introduced a Stealth driving mode, which you can access for electric-only driving. With a full battery, this will cover three to four miles, limited to 45 MPH.

This may seem like a gimmick feature, but Chevrolet executives explained that it was important for them to give Corvette owners some control over the electric system.
