I wouldn’t be the Canadian automotive journalist that I am if I wasn’t, once again, writing about the adorably weird Canadian-exclusive NHL Edition 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe.
In case you haven’t been keeping track, Hyundai Canada plans on building 500 units of this unique trim level as a hommage to its participation as the League’s official automotive sponsor. The NHL Edition will only come in a model-exclusive Creamy White Matte paint, will wear a set of 20-inch, multi-spoke black alloy wheels and will offer buyers the possibility to customize their Santa Fe by stamping their favorite NHL team logo on the vehicle’s door sills, as well as floor and cargo liners.

The King Of Canada’s Lineup
The Canadian market is obviously not receiving as many Santa Fe trim levels as the US. One of the reasons for this is that all-wheel drive comes as standard equipment north of the border, while US-spec’d SUVs will offer a front-wheel drive option. The NHL Edition, which I’m sure some American hockey fans are jealous of, acts as the extra differentiator between both markets.
Available solely with the 1.6-liter turbocharged hybrid drivetrain, which is good for a claimed 231 combined horsepower and 271 lb-ft of combined torque, the NHL Edition will be sold as the king of the lineup, over all other trim levels at an MSRP of $56,998 CAD (or $42,103 USD). According to Hyundai Canada, the 98 at the end of that price is directly related to Canadian-born Blackhawks player Connor Bedard‘s jersey number.
It’s also worth underlying that in an attempt to be a truly Canadian effort, the NHL Edition’s door sills will be made out of Luxwood by a Quebec-based company. And while Hyundai’s original press release mentioned the floor and cargo liners would be supplied by WeatherTech, the company made a last-minute switch to TuxMat, based in Ontario, Canada.
More Than Just Hockey
Hyundai Canada pledges to donate $500 USD for each unit sold to the Chicago Blackhawks Foundation, totaling $250,000 USD. Furthermore, buyers will receive a signed and NHL-authenticated jersey from Connor Bedard himself.

It’s still too early to know if the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe NHL will be a hit with Canadian consumers, or if it’ll one day become some kind of sought after collectible, but Hyundai Canada’s public relations director Frederic Mercier is confident that it’ll spark enough interest to allow Hyundai to come up with more unique NHL-related projects in the near future.
