Ford has been one of the biggest names in the automotive industry for decades now, so it was no surprise when the company started making the switch to electric vehicles to keep up with the times. Gas-powered vehicles have been the name of the game since cars first hit the streets, but Ford is at the forefront of the all-electric overhaul, and the company has been improving the design and increasing the maximum range of its EVs for over a decade.

When Ford released its first EV back in 2012, the company could only get 76 miles out of its battery. These days, newer Ford EVs are achieving north of 300 miles on a single charge, making it possible to drive an electric car daily without worrying about range anxiety. This list includes every all-electric car Ford has ever produced, so you’ll really be able to see how the EVs have improved over time and which Ford can go the furthest between charges.

7 2012-2016 Ford Focus Electric – 76 Miles

Ford released the Focus Electric in 2012 as the company’s first-ever all-electric car. Powered by a small 23.0 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery, the original Ford EV could go just 76 miles on a single charge. Even compared to other higher-end EVs available at the time like the original Tesla Roadster (244-mile range), the Focus Electric’s 76-mile range was among the lowest, leaving drivers worried that they’d run out of juice while on the road.

The powerplant of the original Focus Electric produced just 123 horsepower to go along with its range, but it did offer 105 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe), catching the eye of anyone in the market for an EV or even one of the new hybrids at the time. Looking back at the first-generation Focus Electric makes it seem mediocre now, but in 2012, there weren’t many options available from American automakers.

6 2017-2018 Ford Focus Electric – 115 Miles

In 2017, the Ford Focus Electric was revamped with a bigger 33.5 kWh battery, increasing its range to a respectable 115 miles. This adjustment to the powertrain also upped the Focus Electric’s power output to 143 horsepower along with a slight increase in fuel economy. It was an across-the-board upgrade that helped Ford garner some more confidence from potential EV buyers on the fence.

This range might not be very high for today’s standards, but the jump from 76 to 115 miles on a single charge was a big jump, paving the way for what was to come for Ford and its EV lineup. Without the overall success of the Focus Electric for seven years, who knows how far the company would’ve been behind when it released the Mustang Mach-E a few years later.

5 2022-2024 Ford E-Transit 350 Cargo Van – 126 Miles

Next up is a big jump in time from the discontinued Focus Electric to the new Ford E-Transit 350 all-electric cargo van. The E-Transit was originally released in 2022 and has remained unchanged since, with the 2024 model having the same 126-mile range as previous iterations thanks to its 68.0 kWh battery. Though it may seem a bit lacking at first glance, a vehicle this big operating with an all-electric powertrain is impressive in its own right, not to mention the fact it can go for 126 miles without a boost.

Not designed to be a road warrior you would want to take on a cross-country trip, the E-Transit 350 is a commercial vehicle that is great for getting around town. Its 126-mile range may seem a bit lower than other EVs on the road, similar to the Focus Electric models above, but this all-electric cargo van does exactly what it was designed to do: deliver cargo around town without running on gasoline. It might just be one fo the most underrated EVs available today.

4 2021-2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E – 211-305 Miles

When Ford released the newest member of the Mustang family in 2021, die-hard fans were aghast to find out it was all-electric. The 2021-2022 Mustang Mach-E was Ford’s first real all-electric car after the Focus Electric was discontinued, and it took the company to the next level in the EV space with some trims able to reach up to 311 miles on a single charge with the extended battery pack.

In addition to the massive jump in range, the new Mustang Mach-E also came with a 480-horsepower GT edition that put the old Focus Electric to shame. With the Mustang name, the SUV had to be fast, and these powerful Mach-E trims can reach 60 MPH from a stop in just 3.7 seconds, ushering in a whole new era of Ford EVs while also starting the inevitable shift for the Mustang line to go all-electric.

3 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E – 226-306 Miles

The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E was a bit of a letdown when it first hit the market. Before it came out, buyers and fans were speculating that it would have an increased maximum range, but no one could expect that it would be just one extra mile, up to a maximum of 306 miles on a single charge. Certain trims within the lineup, such as the Premium, enjoyed an increase of more than ten miles in extra range, but its maximum range barely increased for the lineup as a whole.

Taking this a step further, the available trims and battery options were also identical to the previous two model years, with the top-end editions getting 480 horsepower out of the 91.0 kWh battery unit. On the lower tiers, another negligible change can be seen in fuel economy, as it increased from 91-103 MPGe to 92-103 MPGe. These were not exactly the improvements fans were hoping for.

2 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E – 224-312 Miles

When the 2024 Mustang Mach-E was announced, the raw numbers looked very similar to the previous model years. In fact, the 2024 model offers the exact same available horsepower outputs as its 2023 brethren, along with the same 70.0 kWh and 91.0 kWh batteries. The only real difference was the introduction of a new 72.0 kWh battery in the AWD version of the base model Mach-E, which can go for 224-312 miles between charges, increasing its maximum range by six miles.

Outside of this new battery option, very little has changed between 2023 and 2024 for the Mustang Mach-E. The powertrains still pump out the exact same power, and the maximum range is identical. Here’s to hoping Ford makes a few more sweeping changes to the lineup heading into 2025 to increase the range even more. A few years of the same general performance out of any Mustang has always been the norm based on historical Mustang generations, but times are changing, and other EV manufacturers seem much more willing to make changes.

1 2022-2024 Ford F-150 Lightning – 230-320 Miles

Topping off the list as the Ford EV with the best range is the 2022 – 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning. This all-electric pickup is touted not only as a great truck, but it was actually rated as TopSpeed’s best overall EV on the market, so it’s no surprise to see it this high on any list. The new-age F-150 Lightning is available in a few different trims with varying battery sizes, but at its best, it’s capable of going up to 320 miles on a single charge.

Both of the available battery sizes for the new Lightning are far larger than anything else Ford has put in any of its EVs before, which may indicate that the future of the company’s EV landscape is bright. On top of that, having an F-150 Lightning provide the best range of any Ford electric vehicle ever produced is a bit of a shock, but it’s exciting to think about how far a smaller EV could go with a battery of this size. Just imagine a 131.0 kWh battery in something the size of the old Ford Focus Electric, that thing would probably still be driving 12 years later!
