What’s New For 2025
This is a ground-up rebuild that’s part of the overall overhaul of the Scout line in general to bring this classic model-family up to date to the modern standards. A new set of bones gives all the Scouts a performance-oriented bent with optimized handling and cornering. Light weight and a low seat height reinforce the sporty handling characteristics. The bodywork, sparse as it is, brings a new edge to the classic Scout look while maintaining that historical vibe that Indian pulls off so well. Perhaps best of all is the new SpeedPlus engine that really moves Indian’s V-twin Scout engine well into modern performance territory.

2025 Indian 101 Scout Performance And Capability
This new SpeedPlus engine in the 101 Scout is quite impressive. With just 76 cubic inches, this 60-degree V-twin manages to do the work of a larger mill. The 2025 Indian 101 Scout produces 111 horsepower and 82 pound-feet of torque. It has a rather high rev limit for a V2 as well, with the ponies topping out at 7,250 RPM, and the grunt maxing out at 6,300 RPM, though much of that torque is available earlier in the range for solid hole shots and blistering acceleration. This performance profile comes from the oversquare layout that sees a 104 mm bore and 73.6 mm stroke for a total displacement of 1,250 cc and sizzlin’, 12.5-to-1 compression ratio that will take supreme pusholine to avoid misfire issues. Dual over-head cams time the four-valve heads, and variable valve-timing deepens the torque well for plenty of low-down grunt without sacrificing top-end performance. Liquid cooling deals with the extra heat from the extra power.
Power flows through a gear-type primary drive, standard clutch, and a six-speed transmixxer before heading to the rear wheel via a carbon-reinforced, belt-and-pulley drive. The 101 Scout comes stock with the Limited +Tech trim package that brings the full RIDE COMMAND infotainment package with navigation, weather, traffic and more to the table along with a trio of Ride Modes and traction control to round out the engine’s safety electronics.

Design And Styling
Indian’s modern Scout line has had its own evolutionary arc since the brand relaunched. A classic model, the factory manages to capture the air of yesteryear without remaining a slave to it to give the 101 Scout a thoroughly modern look. Both fenders got the chop down to the limit of functionality, Gasser style, and the front fender doubles as a spoiler for the front forks.
A West Coast-style bullet fairing gives it a clubber/gangster vibe that pairs nicely with the new, teardrop fuel tank, and bar-end mirrors for an updated, custom look over the previous generation of Scouts. A gunfighter-style seat slings your butt at a low 25.7 inches off the deck, which is confidence inspiring at stops and gives you plenty of leverage over the machine. All the instrumentation shoehorned into the 4-inch round color TFT display as part of the Limited +Tech package keeps the cockpit clean, even with all the goodies on-board. Copious blackout treatment completes the custom look of the 101, and it goes quite well with both the red and white color packages.

Chassis And Handling
The frame on the 101 Scout is new for 2025, but you can see the clear DNA markers from Scouts of recent vintage, to include the rigid-esque geometry that includes the rear shock that’s laid at an angle to complete the impression. Steering geometry is set for a bit of stability at speed with a 29 degree rake angle and 4.8 inches of trail. A set of 43 mm, USD front forks float the front end on 5.9 inches of travel, while out back, a set of piggyback shocks take care of business with a 3-inch stroke. Both ends are adjustable, so you can dial it in as you please.
Cast-alloy wheels mount Metzeler Cruisetec hoops in a 130/60-19 ahead of a 150/80-16 with an H speed rating that will handle everything the 101 can dish out. Dry weight comes in at 529 pounds, and the factory gives you the tools you need to manage it with dual, 320 mm front discs with four-bore calipers to bite them, while out back, a single-pot binder and 298 mm disc haul things down. ABS protection comes stock, so you can safely get the most out of the anchors when things get dicey.

Harley-Davidson appears to have seen which way the wind was blowing, and that it needed to modernize its offerings, so it dropped the venerable Evolution Sportster engine in favor of something that is much more modern and capable, namely the Revolution Max 1250T engine. It rocks 121 ponies and 93 pounds o’ grunt with a similar high-revving nature to the Scout that sees max power at 7,500 RPM. Harley packs in its full infotainment system along with full, corner-optimized, ride-control features that actually put the 101 to shame in this particular category. Good enough is good enough, but Harley takes it to another level. H-D also goes with adjustable suspension, front and rear. Pricing starts at $16,999 to put it neck-and-neck with the Indian, and the King of Paint offers twice the number of colorways.

Next up is Suzuki’s Boulevard M109R Blacked Out Special Suzuki with its custom curves and American style layout complete with bullet fairing and V-twin beating heart. This bike has an almost Arlen Ness-like flow to the bodywork that neither of the others can touch. It has the best of both worlds with a solo-ish saddle that can be set up for a passenger as well, but maintains that loner look for the rest of the time. Suzuki packs in the cubeage with a 1,783 cc, 54-degree V-twin engine with 123 horsepower and 118 pound-feet of torque for an unsurprising edge in performance, though the 764-pound curb weight will sap the performance a tad. The B.O.S.S. is, however, completely devoid of ride-control electronics of any sort to cede a significant edge to the others. The price is close at $15,599, but not enough to excuse the lack of ‘tronics.
