The GV60 enjoyed increased sales last year, but it was still only able to move 3,400 units in December 2023, which is a bit lower than some of its major rivals. The GV60 is a more premium option, so its lower sales performance is understandable, but critics are curious to discover whether this peculiar-looking EV crossover will further improve its performance in 2024.

What’s New For 2024

Genesis adds a more accessible Standard single-motor, rear-wheel-drive trim. A new set of smaller 19-inch wheels translates to range improvements for the mid-tier Advanced trim. This set is now the standard wheel fitment, while the 20-inch set is still optional. Genesis also issues the Wi-Fi hotspot feature as standard across the range.

Specifications And Performance

The all-new Standard derivative is no different from the base Hyundai Ioniq 5, featuring a single permanent-magnet motor on the rear axle. This produced 225 horsepower and 258 pound-feet, translating to a claimed 7.5-second 0-60 MPH time. The brand still needs to dish out test units for this derivative, so we don’t know how fast it performs in real-world conditions. The brand also states that it reaches a 115-MPH top speed.

The Advanced dual-motor all-wheel-drive model generates 314 horsepower and 446 pound-feet, affording it a 5.4-second claimed 0-60 MPH time and 124 MPH top speed. Again, it fails to issue any units for testing, so there’s no clear benchmark for how fast it really is. The top-of-the-range Performance generates an impressive 483 horsepower and 516 pound-feet, translating to a 4.0-second sprint time, which testers easily brought down to 3.7 seconds.

It’s worth noting that the Performance trim’s 483-horsepower output is temporarily limited to its Boost function. In standard driving conditions, it generates 429 horsepower. This flagship trim also benefits from adaptive suspension and an electronic rear-locking differential.

All GV60 units feature the same 74 kWh Net battery capacity packs. The base model is the most efficient, with a 112 MPGe combined energy consumption return from the EPA. The Advanced on 19-inch wheels returns 100 MPGe, but this worsens to 95 MPGe on the optional 20-inch wheels. The Performance returns 90 MPGe, making it the least favorable option in the range in terms of efficiency.

Towing and Payload Capacities

Genesis limits towing across the entire range to 2,000 pounds, with a 2,039 payload capacity in its 24 cubic-feet trunk, which you can expand to 54.7 cubic-feet by folding down the rear seats. Genesis offers an optional tow hitch via its accessories catalog, but it doesn’t disclose the pricing. You can also consider third-party tow hitches from reputable suppliers.

Genesis GV60 Charging Time And Range

The GV60 Standard returns the best EPA-estimated range at 294 miles. The Advanced on 19-inch wheels covers 264 miles, but this lowers to 248 miles on the 20-inch wheels. The Performance covers 235 miles on a single charge. All GV60s feature a 10.9 kW onboard charger, meaning it’ll take 34 hours and 20 minutes to fully recharge via a Level One household plug. A Level Two system recovers the same charge in seven hours and 20 minutes. DC fast charging recovers 10 to 80 percent of the charge in just 18 minutes.

All GV60 units ship standard with a five-meter Level Two charging cable. You also get three years of complimentary 30-minute DC Fast-Charging sessions via Electrify America. Genesis doesn’t have a brand-specific Level Two household wallbox, they offer several options from reputable third-party suppliers. The model also supports vehicle-to-load charging up to 3.6 kW, supporting small appliances via a plug point in the trunk.

Safety And Reliability

The Genesis GV60 range features a comprehensive 10-airbag configuration covering the driver and front passenger, knees, sides, rear sides, and curtains. The NHTSA did not crash-test the car, but it earns the IIHS’s prestigious Top Safety Pick+ badge.

On the reliability front, the GV60 has thus far been a resilient model, but the 2024 model is subject to a recall relating to the charging unit that could result in a loss of drive power. J.D. Power awards the range an Average 71/100 score for quality and reliability.

Genesis comes out swinging with its flagship Performance derivative, which comes fairly close to matching the top-specification Model Y’s 0-60 MPH acceleration claim. However, it doesn’t quite match this model’s efficiency and range claims, with its smaller battery and more powerful dual-motor configuration. Further hurting its case is its much higher starting price. It is a similar story with the base and mid-tier trims.

The rear-wheel-drive model enjoys a slightly faster claimed 0-60 MPH time, but it fails to match its range and efficiency figures. The GV60 is a significantly more expensive EV crossover option, but its standard specification is a lot more comprehensive. Experts also suggest that it benefits from way higher refinement levels compared to the Tesla.

The GV60’s high price point leads many to ask whether it wouldn’t be more logical to consider the much cheaper Ioniq 5, which uses near identical parts. When comparing flagship trims, the GV60 appears to be a more attractive choice, but this doesn’t consider the Performance-dedicated Ioniq 5 N, which outpaces its premium rival by a long distance.

Further hurting the GV60’s case is its worse efficiency and range claims, despite using the same drive equipment. The Ioniq 5 also offers slightly better cargo space in the trunk, thanks to its more conventional design. Again, pricing is a big factor here, but the Genesis retains its position as a more premium and refined alternative.

Is It Worth Buying The Genesis GV60?

The Genesis GV60 has a lot of strong attributes attached to it, but the only reason why you should be considering it is if you want a premium electric car experience in the midsize crossover segment. Genesis charges a high price for this range, but it supplements this with an incredible specification level, good interior refinement levels, and near-class-leading safety equipment.

A new rear-wheel drive model makes the range much more accessible, while a thrilling performance experience can be had higher up in the range, particularly with the Performance derivative, which will easily put up a fight against some modern sports cars.
