The reality is, almost nobody actually needs a heavy-duty truck like the Ford F-Series Super Duty pickups, but vehicle ownership isn’t always based on practicality. In fact, given some discretionary income, going crazy on a ride that is just for fun makes all the sense in the world. There are those who actually need an F-250 or up for work, but also just as many who want the biggest, baddest toy available. Ford has both of those demographics covered with their impressive line-up of oversized trucks.
The 2024 F-Series Super Duty trucks offer the best in class towing and hauling, to get the job done, as well as awesome power for any extracurricular activity there is. With three trucks (F-250, F-350, F-450), three cab configurations, two box lengths, four engine options, and six trim levels, there is an almost infinite number of combinations to satisfy any need or desire. Again, heavy-duty trucks are not just for anybody, but the Ford F-Series Super Duty pickups have a truck for everybody.

2024 Ford F-250
The 2024 F-250 is built “Ford Tough” and is a versatile heavy-duty pick with trims and configurations for every job. It offers a great 4×4 package as well as a diesel engine option that cranks out a stump-pulling 500 pound-feet of torque. It may lack the luxury and comfort of its competitors, but like all Fords, it is a solid truck for work or play.

10 Things You Need To Know About The 2023 Ford Super Duty
The latest in the Ford Super Duty Line will have the likes of RAM and Chevy running for the hills with the number of upgrades it’s packing.
What’s New For 2024?
The Ford F-Series trucks hit their fourteenth generation for the 2021 model year, so they aren’t in line for a major reboot, especially considering what an amazing vehicle the most recent manifestation has been. The 2024 Super Duty pickups did get a slight refresh with new grills, headlights, and taillights. Also, since radical tailgates are all the rage, the F-series trucks now come with a power tailgate that opens with a nudge or by the press of a button. Additionally, both the 12-inch instrument cluster and 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system are now standard on most trims.
2024 Highlights
- Power tailgate
- 12-inch LCD instrument cluster
- 12-ich touchscreen infotainment system
- New front fascia
- Optional 6.7-liter turbo-diesel V-8

Engine Specifications And Performance
Ford isn’t messing around with the Super Duty trucks, and their competition struggles to keep up. The standard engine is a 405-horsepower 6.8-liter V-8. One step up is the 430-horsepower 7.3-liter V-8, for those looking for a little extra juice. The star of the line-up, however, is the 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbo-diesel V-8 that cranks out 475 horsepower and an awesome earth-shattering 1,050 pound-feet of torque. Like the coolest infomercial ever, Ford says, “But wait, there’s more” because there is a High-Output version of the diesel engine that makes 500 horsepower and 1,200 pound-feet of torque. Whatever the engine choice is, they are all paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Towing Capabilities And Payload Capacity
As was mentioned, the 2024 Ford F-series Super Duty lineup consists of three trucks, three body styles, and four engines, so there are a dizzying amount of towing and hauling capabilities available. The base model XL, with the 6.8-liter V-8, can tow 14,800 pounds, which is already best in class, but under certain configurations, it’s possible to get an insane 40,000 pounds of pulling power. Payload capacity ranges from just under 4,000 pounds to 8,000 pounds, all of which exceed the hauling capacities of most trucks on the market.

Off-Road Capability
Just by their sheer size and power, any of the Super Duty trucks make for competent off-roaders. All trucks are available with a single or dual rear axle, but that second option isn’t necessarily great for trailblazing. There is the Tremor off-road package that comes with a lift kit, bigger tires, and all kinds of suspension upgrades, which turn these behemoths into capable recreational 4x4s.
The thing about the Super Duty trucks is, they are enormous, with a long overall length and wheelbase, which aren’t the first things anyone is looking for in an off-road machine. Due to the gargantuan size and weight of a Ford Super Duty, they are not nimble rock crawlers by any stretch of the imagination. Still, with the kind of power they are packing, they offer several tons (literally) of fun when it comes to carving up a dusty trail.

2024 Dodge Ram 2500 Vs 2024 Ford F-250: A Comprehensive Pickup Truck Comparison
The Ram HD 2500 and Ford Super Duty F-250 are two titans of the heavy-duty pickup class, making it hard to choose
Interior Technology And Comfort
Best Interior Features Of The Year Make Model
- Available lay-flat front seats
- Standard fold-flat rear seats
- Standard lock box under rear seats
- Standard rear camera
- Available 360-degree camera
The base-model XL is fairly stark, but heading up the trim ladder delivers plenty of luxury and features. Even at the bottom, the F-Series Super Duty trucks don’t have the cheap plastic feel that has plagued all Ford vehicles for ages. With a roomy regular cab, massive SuperCab, and four-door SuperCrew cab options, the Super Duty cabins are spacious enough to double as campers. There is an available front seat that folds straight all the way back, turning it into a portable bed, for sleeping off long hauls and epic off-road adventures.
The front row comes in either a split-bench or bucket seat configuration. With the buckets, there is an enormous center console bin for storage. Additionally, there are cubbies and trays all over the interior, great for stowing items or gear. For valuables, the Super Duty has a lock box under the rear seat, but obviously that’s not available in the regular cab. Sitting in the no-man’s land category between interior and exterior, the Super Duty trucks have two box sizes, from 6.75 feet to an 8-footer.
Technology
The base model XL comes standard with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while all other trims are equipped with the 12-inch version. Either way, the Infotainment system runs on Ford’s Sync 4 software, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 640-watt, eight-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system is standard on all models, upgradable to a 1080-watt, 18-speaker arena concert PA setup. The larger cabs have loads of available accessory ports, including two 110-volt power points.

Safety And Reliability
The NHTSB hasn’t yet tested or rated the safety of the 2024 Ford Super Duty trucks, and in fact, still hasn’t gotten to the 2023 models. For 2022, however, the Super Duty trucks have an overall Five-Star rating, so there is no reason to think that the mechanically identical 2024 models aren’t just as safe. Also, they are Fords, so the “built tough” pickups are guaranteed to be reliable workhorses for years.
Driver Assistance Features
The 2024 Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks can be equipped with some great driver assist features, but unfortunately, almost all of them are optional. The only standard feature is automatic emergency braking, which is probably the most important. There are available lane-departure and blind-spot warnings, as well as a lane-keeping assist. In addition to the available adaptive cruise control, there is a Backup Assist which automatically steers the truck while backing up to a trailer, but it still has some bugs to work out.

The 2023 Ford Super Duty Pickup Has Ridiculous Capability
The ability to tow 40,000 pounds and produce 1,200 pound-feet of torque is wild
Warranties
The 2024 Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks come with a 3-year 36,000-mile warranty, which is the industry standard. So is the five year/50,000-mile warranty for the powertrain, but Ford jacks that up with the diesel powertrain, which is covered for five years and 100,000 miles. The only real bummer is that there is no complimentary maintenance visit, but sadly, that is also becoming an industry standard.

2024 Ford F-250 Super Duty Versus Its Competitors
Some foreign automakers actually do produce heavy-duty pickups, but American consumers rarely look at imports when they’re in the market for a beastly truck. That means that the Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks’ two biggest competitors are the Chevrolet Silverado HD/GMC Sierra HD models and the Ram HD lineup. Ironically, the Nissan Titan XD is not invited to this Battle of the Heavy-Duty Truck Titans.
How The Ford F-250 Super Duty Compares To The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
Like the Ford F-Series Super Duty pickups, the Chevrolet Silverado HDs received a front fascia refresh in 2024. Other than that, they are still the solid work trucks Chevy has been making since 2019, with the current generation. The Silverado HD doesn’t have as many engine choices as the Ford Super Duty, but the standard 401-horsepower 6.6-liter gas V-8 and the optional 475-horsepower Duramax diesel provide all the power needed to propel these monster trucks.
While the 36,000-pound max towing of the Silverado HD is impressive, it falls short of the 40,000 pounds the Super Duty can pull. The Silverado 2500HD ZR2 Bison is a more serious 4×4 than the Super Duty with the Tremor Off-Road package, but the Ford is an all-around better work truck than the Chevy. Both truck lines offer the same level of features and have similar pricing, so choosing between the two is a matter of deciding which tool best fits that job.

2024 Ram 2500
Expert Opinion: The 2024 Ram 2500 is unchanged from the amazing workhorse of the previous year, which is good because if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. With more luxury than a heavy-duty truck should come with, and some awe-inspiring power options, it is one of the best on the market. The only downside is that it can get expensive unlocking the full potential of power and capabilities.

The Ram HD pickups match the Ford Super Duty models in power with a standard 410-horsepower 6.4-liter gas V-8 and an optional torque-monster 6.7-liter Cummins diesel that grinds out an amazing 1075 pound-feet. The Ram HD can tow up to 37,090 pounds, which is close to the Super Duty’s capabilities, but not quite there. Ram HDs are superior off-road machines with dedicated trims for tearing up the scenery and providing a better ride at every level, compared to the Super Duty.
Areas where the Ram truly excels are in comfort and luxury. In order to achieve the stunning towing and payload capacities of the Super Duty, Ford had to make their suspensions extra-stiff, which translates into a rocky ride, while the Ram HDs, have similar capabilities but drive smoother. On the inside, nobody beats Ram’s luxury, features, or tech, and they come in competitively priced. The choice here is simple: for a solid work truck, go with Ford, but for a luxury performance pickup, it’s Ram all the way.
How Much Does A 2024 Ford Super Duty Cost?
Starting at $44,970, the F-250 Super Duty is reasonably priced for that much truck, but it’s a barren featureless landscape that is better served as a work truck or fleet vehicle. The XLT trims across all three trucks offer the best price-to-feature ratio, coming in at the same range as similarly equipped trucks from Chevrolet and Ram. It is possible to go crazy with trims and options, ending up with a six-figure mega-truck, but those aren’t going to be Ford’s top-sellers from this lineup.

The Super Duty has powered America for decades and the new model takes the recipe of success to all-new heights
Fuel Economy
The EPA doesn’t test or rate vehicles that weigh as much as the 2024 Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks for fuel economy, but it is unlikely that anyone shopping for a heavy-duty pickup has MPGs on their priority list. An F-250 probably gets around 20MPG on the highway, which is slightly better than an M1 Abrams tank, but far under the kind of gas mileage available in full-size trucks with similar engines.

For someone who tows livestock trailers or construction equipment and hauls massive slabs of granite, the 2024 Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks are the best for the job. In terms of recreation, folks with huge boats and excessive amounts of toys should still go with the Ford heavy-duty pickups because of their great towing capacity. For most other applications, a Super Duty truck just isn’t that practical, especially with the F-350 and F-450.
There are better off-road trucks from Chevrolet and Ram in the heavy-duty category, and even from Ford’s full-size truck lineup, all of which are cheaper than a fully-loaded Super Duty. Also, the higher trim levels of the Super Duty get mighty expensive and don’t offer enough to justify the cost. Still, there is a certain segment of the population who want a big impractical pickup to make some kind of gonzo statement, and the 2024 Ford Super Duty trucks are the perfect vehicles for that.
