Then, it launched its first-ever all-electric power cruiser, the S2 Mulholland. Now, the S2 Del Mar has been recalled again in less than a month. Here’s what you need to know about the recent recall.

The LiveWire S2 Del Mar Recall Is Due To Zero Clamp Load In Several Areas
In times when quality is ever-so-important for consumers, LiveWire has made a big blunder. According to its notice to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), some examples of the S2DM may have been shipped with zero clamp load in a few areas. This means the motorcycles have loose nuts in places like the rear axle assembly, monoshock mount, and engine fasteners. To no one’s surprise, these loose nuts can disturb the handling, inevitably risking a serious injury to the rider.
LiveWire’s Official Statement
Motorcycles within the recall population may have been shipped to dealers with zero clamp load in several areas, including the rear axle assembly, lower shock joint, and certain powertrain fasteners, among others. Zero clamp load on the rear axle assembly or the lower shock joint may lead to a loss of control which may increase the risk of a crash.
Chronology Of The Defect
The issue first came to light in January 2024 when LiveWire came to know about three motorcycles with loose nuts. A formal investigation and screening of the motorcycles followed this. Finally, the company’s Executive Decision Authority authorized a safety recall in March which brings us to today. So far, no accidents or casualties have been reported due to the said defect.
Only 165 Units Of The LiveWire S2 Del Mar Are Potentially Involved
LiveWire claims only 165 units of the Del Mar fall under the recall. Out of these, 50 percent are said to suffer from the defect. Each of these falls between the production dates of July 31 and November 30, 2023. Meanwhile, the VIN range begins from 1HD3GCYB0RB550041 and goes to 1HD3GCYB0RB550699.
If your S2 falls in the range, you’d be happy to know the fix is quite simple. You’ll just have to visit your nearest dealership where LiveWire technicians will inspect and tighten any loose nuts free of cost. There’s no replacement part or reimbursement plan as part of the recall. Ownership notifications are already underway as they were scheduled between March 22 to March 29, 2024.
