Fuel efficiency-conscious buyers now have greater choice in the MU-X range, with Isuzu adding its 1.9-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine to the line-up.

The 2024 Isuzu MU-X range has expanded, with the addition of a 1.9-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine previously found in the D-Max range of utes.
The new, smaller engine means a lower cost of entry into the seven-seater MU-X, with Isuzu offering the MU-X LS-M 1.9-litre 4×2 for $47,400 before on-road costs – or $2000 cheaper than the LS-M with the 3.0-litre engine, which is now $500 more expensive.
Prices across the 3.0-litre line-up have increased by between $500 and $2000, depending on the variant.
The base LS-M is the only two-wheel-drive MU-X available with the 1.9-litre engine, while buyers of the smaller engine have a choice of MU-X LS-M or LS-U trims in four-wheel drive – with the latter two being priced from $53,400 and $59,900 before on-road costs respectively.
The 1.9-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine produces 110kW and 350Nm, while the 3.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder puts out 140kW and 450Nm.
Isuzu claims the 1.9-litre uses just 7.4-litre of fuel per 100 kilometres for either 4×2 or 4×4 models – or a fuel saving of almost 12 per cent compared with the 3.0-litre 4×4 MU-X.
All models are mated with a six-speed automatic transmission, with two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, joined by low-range capabilities and a rear locking differential.
Inside the base model, drivers find push-button start, a 7.0-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, smartphone mirroring, and voice recognition.
Higher-specified MU-X variants get a 9.0-inch infotainment screen with satellite navigation, digital DAB+ radio, and eight speakers, along with electric front seats, leather trim, dual-zone climate control, automatic windscreen wipers, front parking sensors, power tailgate, and LED fog lights.
Also standard across the range are safety features including radar cruise control with stop-and-go, autonomous emergency braking with turn assist, traffic sign recognition, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, trailer sway control, and eight airbags.
Isuzu’s seven-year capped-price servicing has been replaced with a five-year flat-price servicing program, costing $449 each year – or $2245 over the five-year period.
The Isuzu MU-X is 4850mm long, 1870mm wide, and 1815mm high, and has an 800mm wading depth thanks to its minimum 230mm ground clearance.
