After a couple of kickass reveals in the first months, this year isn’t going to plan for Triumph Motorcycles. Just days ago, the British marquee recalled its 660 duo–Trident and Tiger Sport–due to faulty fork caps. And now, it’s announced a recall for its flagship motorcycles, the Speed Triple 1200 RS and Speed Triple 1200 RR. The recall information comes straight from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The Triumph Speed Triple Has Been Recalled Because Of An Overheating Engine
According to Triumph’s official notice, the Speed Triple duo suffers from excessive heat generation from the 1,170cc, triple-cylinder engine. This can lead to a reduction in the radiator’s performance, ultimately resulting in coolant leakage. If that happens on the go, there’s a huge risk of an accident (after all, no one wants to know what happens when piping-hot coolant touches the skin or wheels). The only warning for you would be the overheat warning on the TFT dash.
Triumph explains the issue as:
The engine could generate an excessive amount of heat, leading to a reduction in the radiator fan’s performance. Reduced cooling efficiency can result in coolant leaking from the vehicle, which increases the risk of an injury. In conditions of high ambient temperature and slow-moving traffic, the radiator fan may surpass its maximum operating temperature, resulting in fan motor failure. Ignoring the warning light on the instrument panel and continuing to ride at low speeds may potentially cause coolant displacement.
Chronology Of The Defect
The issue first came to light in early 2023 when an owner made a warranty claim for the same. Post this, the company opened an investigation with the Central Warranty Team and Quality Department. A final go-ahead for the recall came in February 2024, after 21 warranty claims (to date) in the U.S.A. No fatalities or injuries are reported, though.
1,545 Units Of The Triumph Speed Triple 1200 Duo Fall Under The Recall
The bikemaker suggests a total of 1,545 units of the Speed Triple 1200 duo come under the recall. These include the Speed Triple 1200 RRs produced between September 2, 2021 and April 27, 2023, along with Speed Triple 1200 RS models made from February 3, 2021 to March 6, 2024. The VIN range for the former is SMTP02ST1NTAW2194 to SMTP02ST6RTBN0826, and SMTP01ST6NTAF7370 to SMTP01ST9RTBX1597 for the latter.
If your Triumph falls under the range, your local dealer must have reached out to you by now. If not, you should probably give them a visit yourself. The remedy involves a recalibration of the engine ignition system with a new setup, which will be done free of cost.
