10 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible (Restomod by Jeff Hayes)

Sold For $1.1 million

Jeff Hayes, known for restoring and modifying numerous Corvettes over the years, had one of his creations sell for more than $1 million at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction in January 2024. Hayes took a 1967 Corvette Convertible, and gave it a new paint job, wheels, interior, and a much more powerful heart among other upgrades.

The C2-generation Chevy Corvette was a remarkable car and offered up to a 427 cubic-inch Big-Block V-8. However, Hayes replaced the 427 with a 376 cubic-inch LS3 V-8, producing more than 500 horsepower. Furthermore, his custom creation had a champagne exterior with Schott wheels wrapped in white wall tires, and a linen interior that hosted modern goodies such as A/C, a radio with Bluetooth compatibility, power steering, power windows, as well as a power hood.

8 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Rondine

Sold For $1.6 Million

If you’ve never heard of the 1963 Rondine Corvette, it might be because they are excruciatingly rare coachbuilt Corvettes that Pininfarina alters to combine Italian styling and American engineering. Pininfarina played a crucial part in the design of some of the most beautiful cars ever made, such as the iconic Ferrari Testarossa, Alfa Romeo Spider, and Bentley Azure. Unfortunately, the Rondine never became a fully-fledged production car, but Rondine Concept cars still exist – they just rarely go on sale.

6 1969 Chevrolet Corvette #57 Rebel Race Car

Sharing the same underpinnings as the ultra-rare Corvette L88, of which only 20 units exist, the Rebel Race Car was bound to become a collector’s ultimate fantasy. The Rebel Race Car wasn’t based on just any L88, it was one of four lightweight L88s, fitted with open chamber heads, and a dual disc clutch.

At the 2014 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction, the 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Rebel Race Car fetched $2.86 million, making it one of the most expensive race cars ever sold at auction.

As previously mentioned, only 20 examples of the L88 Chevy Corvette exist. That said, a very special red 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Coupe is the most expensive Chevy Corvette ever sold at auction. This was the only red-on-red L88 ‘Vette, and was the only 1967 L88 to receive prestigious awards like an NCRS 98.2 Regional Top Flight 2001 rating, a 98.4 National Top Flight 2001, and the NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence Award 2001.
