The American market may be getting considerably more trim levels than Canada for the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe, including the option of equipping it with front or all-wheel drive, but it won’t be getting the Canadian-exclusive NHL Edition. It’s scheduled to hit Hyundai dealers north of the border this summer, around the same time as the hybrid model.
That’s right, an NHL Edition Santa Fe. This is arguably the most Canadian thing to have ever come out of Canada in years. Limited to only 500 examples for the 2024 model year only, the NHL Edition will come as a nod to Hyundai Canada’s partnership with the NHL, acting as the League’s official automotive sponsor since the 2022-23 season. Unique Paint Color, Wheels, And NHL Customization
From a design standpoint, the main distinction between the NHL Edition and the rest of the Santa Fe lineup will be a bespoke Creamy White Matte paint job. That color will be mated to a Pecan brown interior as well as model-specific 20-inch, multi-spoke black alloy wheels. Those wheels will, however, be available for the U.S.-spec Santa Fe.
Buyers will then be invited to customize their Santa Fe by having their favorite team logo stamped on the vehicle’s Luxwood door sills as well as on a set of supplied WeatherTech floor and cargo liners.
The King Of The Lineup
Hyundai had originally announced the arrival of the 2024 Santa Fe NHL Edition at the Montreal Auto Show back in January, alongside none other than former Montreal Canadiens player Yvan Cournoyer. Based on the 231-horsepower hybrid model, which is scheduled to hit U.S. and Canadian showrooms towards the beginning of the summer, the NHL Edition will be the most equipped version powered by that drivetrain.
While no pricing has yet been confirmed, Frederic Mercier, Hyundai Canada’s public relations director for the Quebec region, told Topspeed.com that he expects the NHL Edition to tower the Santa Fe’s lineup as the most expensive model, topping, even, the almighty 2.5T Ultimate Calligraphy (Calligraphy AWD in the US). For reference, the MSRP for that one is $53,499 CAD. So expect an even saltier price tag for that NHL model.
The NHL Edition will be Hyundai Canada’s way of offering consumers the luxury amenities of a top-spec Calligraphy model but with a hybrid powertrain. It’s basically going to be the same setup as the Calligraphy Hybrid AWD that’ll be sold in the US.
It’s obviously too early to know if the NHL Edition will hold a better resale value on the second-hand market, but it could be a hit with hardcore hockey fans. Something tells me Canada has quite a few of those.
