Electric BYD with teen inside crashes into Myer from shopping centre display

An electric SUV has almost driven off a first-storey shopping centre display, before reversing at speed into a department store, injuring two.

Two people have been hospitalised after a BYD Atto 3 electric SUV smashed through the front of a Myer department store in Sydney’s west.

According to NSW Police, emergency services were called to the Liverpool shopping complex on the weekend after reports the Atto 3 accelerated unexpectedly towards a guard rail on the second level, before reversing at speed into the Myer shopfront.

Police allege a 14-year-old boy was sitting in the BYD at the time.

A man in his 30s was treated for chest injuries, while another man in his 50s received minor head injuries.

The teenager has been questioned, with both police and SafeWork NSW investigating the incident.

It’s understood the electric BYD Atto 3 SUV was part of a shopping centre static display, alongside an electric BYD Seal sedan.

NSW Police have asked for any witnesses or those with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or to make an anonymous report on the Crime Stoppers website by clicking here.
