Mercedes-AMG is turning up the heat with the introduction of the second-generation AMG GT coupe. While the outgoing model was laden with various trims and special editions over it eight-year life span, the second-gen model starts fresh with just two available trims at launch – the AMG GT 55 and the AMG GT 63. The same, hand-crafted, 4.0-liter V-8 does carry over, though, so there’s no engine downsizing here. Some of this we were already aware of, however, pricing has been a complete mystery, until now.

With the 2024 AMG GT arriving at dealers and to customers this spring, Mercedes has finally revealed pricing for the GT 55 and GT 63.

The new, 2024 Mercedes AMG GT launched three years after the availability of GT Coupe ceased outside of the GT Black Series and GT Track Series. The new entry point, for now is $134,900 in GT 55 form or $175,900 in GT 63 form. While it is expected a more affordable trim will come along eventually, as of Spring launch, the GT 55 is the entry-level model. These prices are interesting as the GT 55 was initially expected to come in at around $160,000.

This pricing actually marks a huge increase over the outgoing model with the GT 55 commanding some $15,000 more than the standard GT Coupe in 2021, though it is a bit cheaper than the 2021 GT C coupe, which came in at just north of $154,000. The GT 63, which is basically a replacement for the 2021 AMG GT R comes in at about $8,000 more than its older counterpart.

No Noticeable Upgrade In The Powertrain Department

At the heart of the GT lies AMG’s handcrafted 4.0-liter, biturbo, V-8 engine. In the AMG GT 55 model, it churns out a rousing 469 horsepower, while the AMG GT 63 dials it up to 577 horsepower. The GT 55 comes in at 13 horsepower heavier vs the 2021 AMG GT at 456 ponies, however, the AMG GT 63 has an identical power output to the 2021 AMG GT R.

Harnessing all that power is an array of AMG’s latest performance tech. The 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system provides enough grip to keep you on the road, while active rear-axle steering is said to enhance agility. AMG’s active ride control suspension with active roll stabilization ensures the GT remains planted through the twistiest corners, while its active aerodynamic elements can be deployed to improve downforce.

For 2024, AMG has decided to include the Dynamic Plus Package as standard equipment. This unlocks an electronically-controlled limited-slip rear differential, active engine mounts, and a “RACE” drive mode with a dedicated Drift setting – ideal for embracing your inner hooligan on the track.

Small Exterior Enhancements Make All The Difference

As is the case with the outgoing model. The new AMG GT features that long wheelbase with a rear-positioned cabin and long nose. The short overhangs and steeply raked windshield provide an aggressive, purposeful look while the wide fender flares, accented by flush-mounted alloy wheels up to 21 inches in diameter give it what could be the meanest stance of 2024. Out back, horizontal LED taillights accentuate the GT’s broad haunches.

Mercedes is also offering premium packages like the Carbon Fiber exterior package and an AMG Night package with darkened trim. An optional AMG Aerodynamics package cranks up the aero elements for maximum downforce and high-speed stability, which is ideal if you plan to be a weekend warrior at the track.

An Interior That Just Screams Luxury And Performance

The cabin of the AMG GT is wrapped with excessively premium materials. As a consumer, you get the choice of picking between nine upholstery designs cloaked in supple Nappa leather. Those tackling back roads above the speed limit, ripping up the Autobahn, or planning extreme track duty, you can opt for highly-bolstered AMG Performance seats. Exclusive trim elements provide additional opportunities for personalization.

Naturally, the AMG GT doesn’t win any awards for cargo capacity – it is a sports car, after all. However, this is a 2+2 coupe, which means there is a little bit of extra cargo capacity to be had. If you lay down the rear seats, you’ll be able to carry as much as 23.8 cubic-feet of cargo. It may not play the role of a daily driver all that well, but you can go hit a round of golf with your friends or make a quick stop at the grocery store without worrying too much about carrying your goods with you.

The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT coupe will begin arriving at U.S. dealerships this spring.
