2024 Dodge Charger Sixpack: Everything We Know So Far

With the all-new 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona finally being revealed in all its glory, there is no denying that the Detroit-based brand is moving into a future driven by electric power. As this will be the first all-electric muscle car to be released, the Charger Daytona has garnered massive attention throughout the industry.

As Dodge finished its run of “Last Call” 2023 Chargers and Challengers, these models marked the end of the gas-powered HEMI V-8 being under the hood. These engines were the heart and soul of Dodge’s muscle cars for decades, making fans sad to see them go.

However, even with the Charger’s future primarily focused on electric power in 2024 and beyond, two different gas-powered variants have also been announced for the redesigned muscle car. By offering gas-powered engine options, Dodge broadens the Charger’s appeal while maintaining its historic reputation for power and performance. Planned to go into production in the first quarter of 2025, here’s everything confirmed about the new gas-powered Dodge Charger.

The Gas-Powered ’25 Dodge Charger Will Feature the Hurricane Inline-Six

Despite Dodge also offering a gas-powered version of the Charger, the “Last Call” models of the latest generation will retain their status as the last of the HEMI V-8s. For the new Charger, the models will instead be fitted with Hurricane inline-six engines. Due to the gas-powered models arriving later, performance specs are not yet fully available.

The combustion engines will drop the Daytona badge under which the electric models will be produced and will instead be called the Charger Sixpack. Efficiency is a clear motivator for Dodge’s parent company, Stellanis, moving into the future. Lower-trim 2023 Charger models came with a 3.6-liter V-6, so switching to an inline-six instead of the bigger V-8 makes perfect sense due to the better MPG ratings.

Two Different Engine Tunes

As with the Daytona models, which offer two different variants (the R/T and Scat Pack), the gas-powered six-pack models will also come with two available tunes for the Hurricane inline-six. Both Dodge Charger Sixpack variants will feature the same 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged Hurricane inline-six, but come in standard output (S.O.) or High Output (H.O) tunes.

For the standard output version, the ’24 Charger Sixpack will produce 420 horsepower, with the high output tune increasing the power to provide 550 horsepower. Even with the standard output engine, the Hurricane inline-six beats out every V-6 trim from the 2023 Charger lineup, and it even beats the ’23 R/T’s V-8, which produces 375 horsepower.

The high output tune boasts equally impressive feats, with the 550 horsepower managing to beat out last year’s Scat Pack Charger’s V-8, which produces a lesser 485 horsepower. The 2023 SRT Hellcat Chargers are a little out of reach for the Hurricane inline-six, with the Redeye trim delivering 797 horsepower. These numbers will have to be left to the electric Daytona models to beat, with the upcoming Banshee trim expected to break the 800 horsepower barrier.

Their Power Compared To The All-Electric Daytona Models

Keeping on topic with the all-electric Charger Daytona models, the performance specs for the first run of the new generation were revealed, letting us see how the Hurricane inline-six engine will fare against the electrified models. It Will Be Built On Stellantis’ New NLSA Platform

The Stellantis NLSA Platform, which will also underpin all upcoming models, is also brand-new for the 2024 Dodge Charger. This full-size platform will be one of the most versatile on the market, supporting both combustion engines and electric motors.

Dodge names the platform “multi-energy,” designed to extract as much performance from the powertrain as possible. The NLSA platform is BEV-native but fully capable of supporting combustion engines and hybrid powertrains. While a new Dodge Charger hybrid version hasn’t been announced, Charger chief engineer Audrey Moore says, “Anything is possible” with the new Stellantis platform.

Available In Both Coupe and Sedan Form

Thanks to the large platform, Stellantis can offer the all-new Dodge Charger in coupe and sedan form, effectively leaving the Challenger name to the past. This applies to both the Charger Daytona and Charger Sixpack models. All four-door models are planned for production in the first quarter of 2025, but only the two-door coupe versions of the Charger Daytona will see production in mid-2024.

In recent years, Dodge’s Charger has been a four-door sedan, with the equally iconic Challenger being the brand’s two-door coupe. However, Dodge’s CEO Tim Kuniskis says the company has no immediate plans for the Challenger, making the Charger the sole muscle car for Dodge moving forward. By taking over from the Challenger on the two-door coupe front, the Charger returns to its late ’60s/early ’70s roots.

A Look Inside The New Dodge Charger

Alongside the exterior and performance specs for the new Dodge Charger, details about the interior have also been revealed. As expected, the interior design has received a modern, sleek redesign to keep up-to-date with the rapid progression in this department throughout the industry. While the interior images recently released are for the electric Daytona, the same base features can be expected to carry over to the Sixpack models.

The ’24 Charger features a 12.3-inch touchscreen display positioned in an angled center stack to give the driver the most precise, accessible screen view. Behind the redesigned performance-oriented steering wheel is the standard 10.25 digital cluster screen, which can be upgraded to a sizable 16-inch screen. The instrument panel’s design aims to replicate the ’68 Charger, combining the classic feel with modern tech and materials.

Speaking of the interior materials for the new Charger, the seats are upholstered in cloth and vinyl as standard. Still, they can be upgraded to premium options, including heated Black Nappa leather and Demonic Red Nappa leather. Cutting-edge technology is also embraced, with a head-up display and a 64-color interior lighting system available. Interior badging will match your chosen model, with the Hurricane inline-six variants receiving the Sixpack badge and the EVs featuring the Daytona badge.

The Sixpack’s Hurricane Inline-Six Compared To The Ford Mustang’s Coyote Engine

Ever since the Dodge Challenger was reintroduced in 2008, the coupe muscle car has been in direct competition with the Ford Mustang, with the four-door Charger competing closer with Cadillac’s CTS-V. However, now that the Charger has taken up the coupe reigns for the brand, it will find itself taking on Ford’s long-standing muscle car.

For 2024, Ford is retaining the V-8 under the hood of its flagship muscle car, with the four-generation Coyote engine making its debut in the new top-spec Mustang. The Dark Horse Mustang trim offers the most power, with 500 horsepower and 418 pound-feet of torque.

Despite the Hurricane engine being smaller, the Charger Sixpack H.O. will still produce more power, showing the capability of Stellantis’ new engine.
