Updates coming in “next few months” for ageing Nissan Navara ute

Nissan is poised to introduce subtle changes for the current-generation Navara ute, as the model nears the end of its life.

Nissan Australia has advised minor updates are on the way for the 2024 Nissan Navara ute, as the model enters its ninth year on sale in Australia – and third after a mid-life facelift.

Speaking to Drive at the Australian media launch of the Nissan Qashqai e-Power hybrid SUV, Nissan Australia managing director Adam Paterson would not specify the extent of the changes, but flagged “[product] activity in the next few months”.

“We’re always looking at the opportunity to bring new packages and new content to the truck,” Mr Paterson, who worked for Nissan in Canada for a decade before coming to Australia, told Drive.

“And while I’m not going to talk about anything specific today, you’ll see some activity in the next few months.”

Given how late the current Navara is in its life cycle, the changes are likely to be minor.

The Nissan Navara is showing its age against newer dual-cab ute rivals such as the Ford Ranger, Volkswagen Amarok and Mitsubishi Triton – the latter of which will share much of its DNA with the next-generation Nissan Navara.

Documents seen by Drive in January 2023 show the first new Nissan Navara ute in a decade due to be revealed in the middle of 2024, however it is believed this has been slid back – and the brand is staying tight-lipped about the ageing model’s next generation.

If the next-generation Nissan Navara was to roll off its Thai production line towards the end of this year – and Australian arrivals commenced in early 2025 – there would be room, and opportunity, for Nissan Australia to introduce “run-out” editions of the current D23 Nissan Navara.

Despite the Nissan Navara’s relative age compared to the rest of the dual-cab ute segment, the model continues to be a steady seller for the Japanese car maker, especially as stock improves.

In February 2024, the Navara notched up its best monthly sales result since December 2021.

Nissan’s sales results for February 2024 saw the Navara the second-best seller in the company’s line-up – behind the X-Trail medium SUV – with 1501 deliveries representing a 181 per cent increase compared to the same month last year.

However it is down from the 2645 examples reported as sold in February 2013 – ten years ago – at the model’s peak.
