The teaser for the new Patrol-based Infiniti QX80 provides the latest clues for the 2025 Nissan off-roader, set to use twin-turbo V6 power.
Here is the 2025 Nissan Patrol – which is set to drop V8 power for a twin-turbo petrol V6 – in a different outfit.
The Infiniti QX80, the luxury version of the next-generation Nissan Patrol expected in Australia in 2025 has been teased by its manufacturer on YouTube ahead of an unveiling next month.
The QX80 is to the Patrol what the Lexus LX is to the Toyota LandCruiser, a more luxurious version with additional features and unique styling.
While the new model will not be offered in Australia – Infiniti ending eight years of local operation in 2019 – it will likely follow the previous QX80 approach in sharing much of its design with its Nissan Patrol sibling.
The latest Infiniti teaser – combined with spy shots and the QX Monograph concept unveiled in August 2023 – offers clues to where the Nissan version is heading as it launches ahead of the Patrol donor vehicle.
The current-generation Nissan Patrol was introduced in 2010, with a replacement due in 2025 that is confirmed to ditch the current version’s V8 petrol engine in favour of a petrol twin-turbo V6.
While they may be identical under the skin, the biggest visual difference distinguishing the previous QX80 from the Patrol on the outside was its front-end bonnet, grille and bumper treatment. The two vehicles used near-identical door panels, roof and tailgate.
The short teaser promotional clip issued by the car maker shows the QX80 wrapped in a camouflage graphic and offers a glimpse of the basic overall shape it shares with the next-generation Patrol.
As seen on the QX Monograph concept, the clip shows a row of LEDs to form the QX80’s wraparound angular headlights.
The light bar joining the concept car’s headlights together across the nose – not shown in the clip – may also simply not be switched on for the teaser.
High-mounted headlights sit above the large, centrally-mounted Infiniti badge – which is also illuminated – in the same fashion as the QX Monograph concept.
The bodywork around the headlights and grille also matches the show car, while also looks the same as the bonnet seen in spy images of the next Nissan Patrol published in late 2023.
Compared to the concept, there appears to be a more intricate, sculpted tail-light design.
