Summary

  • The McLaren Artura Spider is the lightest hybrid convertible, with impressive performance and fast gearshifts for a thrilling driving experience.
  • The hybrid V-6 engine design allows for quicker throttle response and lower center of gravity, achieving remarkable torque and power levels.
  • With luxurious material finishes and advanced technology features, the Artura Spider offers a refined interior design for ultimate comfort and convenience while driving.

Ever since British automaker, McLaren got into road cars back in the early ’90s with the legendary F1, it has strived to bring the latest in grand-prix racing technology to street cars. Fast-forward to more modern times and the Woking-based brand has given us some truly monumental supercars, beginning with the likes of the MP4-12C. But if we’re talking about some truly ground-breaking models, you simply can’t forget about the hybrid P1 hypercar, or the equally bonkers Mclaren Senna, which is essentially a track weapon.

Following up on that very trend, one of McLaren’s most recent models to join the lineup is the Artura. An all-new model from the ground up in more than a decade, despite the Artura not being part of McLaren’s ultimate series, it is still McLaren’s most advanced supercar to date. Where models like the P1 and Senna broke convention with green tech and a V-8 instead of a V-12, the Artura went further with a hybrid twin-turbo V-6 in the engine bay. Now, McLaren takes that narrative even further for the 2025 model year, with the introduction of the Artura Spider. Welcome everyone to McLaren’s first-ever hybrid convertible.

The McLaren Artura Spider Brings Open Air Thrills Without Weight Gain

The McLaren Artura Spider is built on the same MCLA carbon fiber monocoque chassis as the coupe, but despite chopping the roof off, McLaren has managed to retain the structural rigidity and avoid adding any additional weight. Visually, the Artura Spider retains the basic silhouette of the Artura, with the obvious difference being the single-piece carbon-fiber retractable roof, which can be deployed in just 11 seconds.

As for engine performance, the Artura packs a compact twin-turbo Hybrid 3.0-liter V-6 engine that produces a combined 690 horsepower and 431 pound-feet of torque.

The 120-degree V engine design (hot-vee) improves packaging and helps with better heat dissipation, quicker throttle response times owing to lower turbo lag (also compensated for with the electric motor), and lower center of gravity. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic and an electronically controlled differential.
