2021-2024 Lexus LX recalled for transmission fault

More than 1300 new-generation Lexus LX four-wheel-drives could creep forward unintentionally when shifted to neutral, according to the recall notice.

Lexus Australia has recalled approximately 1350 examples of its 2021-2024 Lexus LX, citing a potential fault with the transmission.

The affected vehicles were produced between 10 December 2021 and 10 January 2024, and are LX600 petrol and LX500d diesel models.

The recall notice says: “For involved vehicles, due to an issue in the design of a certain brake clutch disc inside the 10-speed transmission on those vehicles, the brake clutch disc may not immediately disengage when the vehicle is shifted to the neutral position.

“If this condition occurs when the vehicle is on a flat surface, and if the driver does not apply the brake pedal or the parking brake, it could allow a vehicle to inadvertently creep forward at a low speed (up to approximately 6km/h), which could increase the risk of a crash.”

Lexus Australia says it will contact owners of affected vehicles via text, email and/or mail to their last known address, to book an appointment with a Lexus dealer to reprogram the transmission control unit (ECU) software free of charge.

The company advises this work will take approximately 30 minutes, but that “depending on the dealer’s work schedule, owners may be required to make the vehicle available for a longer period of time.”

Owners can contact their preferred Lexus dealer, or the Lexus Customer Assistance Centre on 1800 023 009 (Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 6:00pm AEDT) for more information. To update contact details, owners can visit the company’s website.
