A few days back, Indian took the wraps off its new Roadmaster Elite for 2024. The motorcycle marked a collaboration between the company and two leading American custom paint shops. It was easily the most exclusive Indian offering in the 2024 lineup, but this is no longer the case. That’s because the American giant has now introduced a limited edition of the FTR 1200 Carbon, in collaboration with celebrated custom bikemaker Roland Sands Design (aka RSD).
The motorcycle takes inspiration from Indian’s race bike in the MotoAmerica Super Hooligan National Championship and celebrates the hooligan lifestyle. In case you’re unaware, the bikemaker took home the national championship in 2023 with Tyler O’Hara in the saddle. Here’s a quote from Aaron Jax (vice president, Indian Motorcycle) to set the mood:

The Indian FTR Super Hooligan Has A Ravishing Aesthetic
One look at the limited edition FTR, and you’ll be in awe of it. Credit for this goes to the handful of extra design elements. Up top, you get a bespoke windshield, complete with Super Hooligan and ‘1’ decals. This is topped by a trick-looking belly pan, inspired by Indian’s naked race bike. The same treatment follows outback. There’s a sexy pillion seat cowl and side number plates, both with race bike-inspired graphics. If that’s not good enough, Indian will also supply a set of stickers with each bike for your own application.
Then there’s the distinct livery. The FTR Super Hooligan comes wrapped in a Black Metallic bodywork (straight from O’Hara’s title-winning machine), topped with a red chassis and wheels. A close look at the wheels also reveals golden ‘Indian/Super Hooligan’ letterings. The two parties have also paid attention to the nitty-gritty details. This is evident from the:
- Special tank badge
- Bespoke RSD saddle
- Gilles adjustable rearsets
- Gilles oil cap
- Gilles radiator cap
- Gillen bar-end weights
All this while, the standard design elements of the FTR–round headlight, sleek tail lamp, swingarm-mounted hugger, carbon fiber finder–remain unchanged.
There’s No Shortage Of Premium Components On The Indian FTR Super Hooligan
Under the new aesthetic, the FTR Super Hooligan draws its mechanical wizardry from the FTR Carbon edition. It employs a 1,203cc, V-twin engine, armed with liquid cooling and a 12.5:1 compression ratio. The result is an impressive 120 horsepower and 87 pound-feet, all sent to the wheel via a six-speed transmission. Indian has also slapped on a road-legal Akrapovic exhaust for a raspier exhaust note.
Since that’s enough grunt for some serious fun, you get a set of extensive rider aids to keep things under check. We’re talking about three ride modes (Rain, Road, Sport), cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, rear lift mitigation, and cruise control. All these can be accessed via a Bluetooth-enabled four-inch TFT display.
As for underpinnings, the limited edition FTR has the same chassis and suspension as the Carbon. So the bike is built around a steel trellis chassis, paired with a distinct subframe. Suspension duties are handled by Ohlins 43 mm USD forks and an Ohlins monoshock, both fully adjustable with 4.7 inches of travel. Each end has a 17-inch alloy wheel that houses Brembo rotors and calipers while being wrapped in sticky Metzeler Sportec M9 RR tires. The entire package tips the scale at 491 pounds (dry).
