How much speed is too much speed? In today’s times when fast isn’t fast enough, there are bikes that go above and beyond what a conventional two-wheeler is supposed to do. In this feature, we draw our attention to an adventure motorcycle that not only promises to take you anywhere and everywhere but also at the fastest speed possible in its class.

We’re talking about the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally. Ducati has won 18 manufacturer trophies and 15 rider cups in the last thirty-five years of World Superbike racing. So, it is no surprise the current world’s fastest adventure bike also comes from the celebrated Italian giant. The company is no stranger to producing high-tech, high-performance motorcycles, and bikes like the Panigale V4 are fitting proof of this. These very learnings all trickle down to the V4 Rally to offer unmatched performance on any terrain or no terrain. Here’s what the fastest adventure motorcycle in the world offers.

In order to give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from various manufacturer websites and other authoritative sources.

The Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally Can Go As Fast As 155 MPH

Ducati made sure that the V4 Rally would go on to be a bike that set a new benchmark in the realm of adventure motorcycles. While it is not the fastest of all Stradas that Ducati has on offer (the bonkers V4 RS is a tad bit faster, although it is more of a souped-up sports tourer), we chose the V4 Rally as our pick because it’s a proper adventure bike you can take off the road without any worries. As for the top speed, it can reach the 155 MPH mark with ease. In doing so, it trumps the likes of KTM’s powerful 160-horsepower Super Adventure S and R variants.

Power Can be Limited Or Increased Based On the Rider Mode You select

When it comes to the motorcycle technology revolution, Ducati has led the way for some time now. The way the company has tuned the V4 Rally makes this clear. There are four modes on offer: Urban, Sport, Touring, and Enduro. In contrast to other Multistradas, the Rally includes a unique Off-road power mode with a dynamic throttle response that is the default for Enduro and is capped at 114 horsepower. Sport has a default setting of the full 170 horsepower with Dynamic reaction, Touring gets the full power with a smoother throttle response, while Urban mode has a low power output (the same as Enduro). With its sportbike-inspired engine, the Multistrada easily outperforms sweepers. Aside these modes, you also get a host of other electronics.

2021 marked a big chance for Ducati when it revealed the first-ever V4 Multistrada. The standard V-twin with a Desmodromic actuation motor was replaced with a new Panigale-derived V4 Granturismo engine with a counter-rotating crank and spring-operated valves. Even among ardent enthusiasts who were disappointed to see the original V-twin replaced, the new four-cylinder power unit’s easy-to-rev power and fluidity made it an immediate success.

The Rally has the same, likable Granturismo engine. It features cylinder deactivation, which keeps the rear two cylinders idle until the engine reaches 3,800 RPM. There are several advantages of operating as a twin at low RPM. It lowers heat, reduces pollutants, and most importantly leads to a 6% increase in fuel savings (according to Ducati).

Regardless of where you are in the RPM range, the V4 engine is delightful to live with. The power is robust and well-spread, and the link between the rear tire and the wrist is exquisite. The partnering exhaust note is pretty good too, and when the revs increase (anything beyond 7,000 RPM), it just serves as a reminder of its superbike roots.

Although the alloy monocoque chassis of the V4 Rally is taken from the standard Multistrada V4, its suspension system and wheels focus on all things off-road. The spoke wheels are set on a higher, longer-traveling Marzocchi suspension with Ducati’s Skyhook Evolution semi-active damping control system. The spoke wheels measure 19 and 17 inches fore and aft, while the ground clearance is increased to nine inches. Also, the front forks have 1.1 inches more travel and the rear adds 0.78 inches, making for a total of 7.8 inches of movement at both ends.

As for the brakes, Brembo stoppers are present: a two-piston rear caliper on a 265 mm disc and Brembo Stylema radial mount four-pots on the front with 330 mm discs. Similar to other models from the company, cornering ABS comes standard and is powered by the six-axis IMU. The primary distinction between the Rally variant and the ordinary Multistrada V4/S is the smaller rear brake master cylinder, which has a diameter of 12 mm as opposed to 13 mm. Though smaller, it is more powerful and provides a more progressive lever feel.

The 659cc single-cylinder engine will not spawn a multiple-bike lineup

For those who prefer not to get too technical with their rides, the Ducati Multistrada offers the rider a selection of sensible and practical default modes. Nothing feels like a gimmick and you’ll enjoy life aboard the V4 Rally regardless of the terrain. As for price, you can get the entire package for a starting price of $29,995. Yes, that’s pricey, but the MSRP seems just fine when you consider what’s on offer (be it the supreme features, the performance, sophistication, or elegance).

In the market, KTM’s 1290 Super Adventure, the BMW R 1300 GS, and the brand-new Moto Guzzi Stelvio are a few higher-end adventure bikes that give it tough competition. But neither of these comes close to the Multi’s top speed.
