2024 Toyota bZ4X: Every Trim Compared

[ad_1]

Summary

  • The Toyota bZ4X is Toyota’s first full-electric vehicle, part of their new range of ‘Beyond Zero emissions’ vehicles.
  • The bZ4X is a competitive all-electric crossover SUV that rivals other reasonably-priced EVs in the market.
  • The bZ4X comes in two trim levels, XLE and Limited, both of which offer a great value for money and a long list of standard safety features and technology.

The bZ4X is Toyota’s all-electric crossover SUV that sports a funky design with black accents covering the fenders. Just like the Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ, the Toyota and Subaru co-developed the bZ4X. With the blue badge, the Toyota bZ4X goes under the alias of Subaru Solterra. There is some method behind the madness regarding the Toyota bZ4X’s name too. bZ refers to the new name given to Toyota’s new range of ‘Beyond Zero emissions’ vehicles. The number 4 symbolizes its size – an SUV – and the X means it’s an all-electric vehicle.

Although the bZ4X is very similar in size to other Japanese SUVs such as the Toyota RAV4, it sits lower to the ground, and of course, is all-electric. Although Toyota already offers a plethora of hybrid vehicles and is working on perfecting the hydrogen combustion engine, the bZ4X is Toyota’s very first full-electric vehicle. The bZ4X sits in a very competitive market rivaling other reasonably-priced EVs such as the Volkswagen ID.4, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Tesla Model Y, and TopSpeed’s best electric car for 2022, the Kia EV6.

Here follows everything you need to know about the 2024 Toyota bZ4X, and what the differences are between its trim levels and powertrain options.

The BZ4X is Toyota’s only pure electric offering in the U.S. for now, and here’s everything you need to know about it.

In order to give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from Toyota’s official website.

2024 Toyota bZ4X Trim Overview

As you can see, the Toyota bZ4X sports a very futuristic design language and finally gives Toyota a chance to fight in the EV segment. The 2024 Toyota bZ4X adopts Toyota’s impeccable build quality inside and out, at a reasonable starting price, and a plethora of standard features. Toyota products don’t often compete in luxury divisions, but the new Toyota bZ4X is one of the few midsize luxury SUVs we’re looking forward to in 2024.

All bZ4X models host a J1772/CCS1 connector that allows Level 3 DC fast charging, on top of Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging. This means that when using a Level 2 charger at 240V at home, you can charge your bZ4X’s battery from low to full in about 9.5 hours, or gain about 20 miles of electric range for every hour it’s plugged in.

With those figures, the bZ4X is quite a long way away from being the fastest-charging electric vehicle on sale, but fortunately, its fast charging capabilities make up for that. Therefore, you can charge your 2024 Toyota bZ4X from nearly empty to 80 percent in merely 30 minutes.

Generally speaking, electric SUVs (even small crossovers) come standard with all-wheel-drive, especially the top-tier versions. This is not the case for the Toyota bZ4X. Both the XLE and Limited bZ4X come as front-wheel-drive crossover SUVs with all-wheel-drive being a $2,080 option on all trim levels for the bZ4X.

The standard front-wheel-drive Toyota bZ4X features a single electric motor. If you upgrade to the all-wheel-drive Toyota bZ4X, regardless of the trim level, an extra electric motor gets thrown into the mix.

As previously mentioned, the front-wheel-drive Toyota bZ4X has 201 horsepower and 214 horsepower available when fitted with all-wheel-drive. But this doesn’t mean that the compact electric SUV is a slouch. Toyota claims the front-wheel-drive bZ4X does zero to 60 miles per hour in 7.1 seconds, and the all-wheel-drive variant does the same in 6.5 seconds.

There is one downside to having more power, though – less range. The Limited trim bZ4X has a slightly worse electric range than the XLE trim level, but Toyota is currently working on solid-state batteries that should give EVs up to 745 miles of range per single charge.
